SurfKitchen Launches Mobile Multimedia Desktop Delight

Reading, UK, 14 February 2005 - SurfKitchen, the leading provider of dynamic user experience (DUE) software which enables mobile operators to increase data services and content consumption, today announced the launch of a new multimedia solution that redefines mobile user experience. The SurfKit Multimedia Desktop™ offers users a unique tune in, tune out, sit down and watch experience, which is very different from the point and click world of Web and WAP.

Since the launch of its successful flagship software, SurfKit Mobile™, SurfKitchen has had a number of successful deployments with Tier 1 mobile operators and is evolving its solution to address the operators’ need to create and maintain new mobile data revenues.

SurfKit Multimedia Desktop™ uniquely combines text, images, video and other existing content into a single attention-grabbing mobile desktop designed to increase the reach and use of data services. Content streams (e.g. video) can be played seamlessly within one mobile desktop page promoting ease of use and a richer user experience.

Mobile users have the option to subscribe to a variety of channels enabling them to receive operator branded, tailored content and services pushed to their phone, which they can enjoy both online and offline. By providing compelling, targeted content and improving the discovery experience, users spend more time using services, thus increasing data consumption and user loyalty.

The ability to provide selective updates to content over the air (OTA) without the need to refresh entire pages means that the mobile user gets a fresh, relevant experience, quickly and easily. This solution is also designed to optimise the mobile device battery life as well as content and data speed functionality. SurfKit Multimedia Desktop™ is designed for mass market reach and delivers a consistent user experience across a wide range of platforms including Symbian, Java, Microsoft Pocket PC and MS Smartphone.
Performance is optimised, as content can be distributed across device and network. Operators can decide how content and services are cached on the phone and server, depending on bandwidth available (2.5G or 3G) and user location. SurfKitchen’s technology is intuitive and easily managed via dynamic OTA data updates without operator maintenance burden or user interference.

SurfKit Multimedia Desktop™ gives a superior experience to alternative browser- based applications. Users can enjoy the SurfKit Multimedia Desktop™ experience anywhere they go; whether on an underground train or at 20,000ft, they can view videos, news alerts and listen to music, as it provides a live service even without an online connection.

Michel Quazza, SurfKitchen’s CEO says: “SurfKitchen is redefining the mobile experience, while creating new revenue opportunities for operators and service providers. We have capitalised on our operator success with SurfKit Mobile™ and our new Multimedia Desktop offering takes the industry to the next level by merging a wide array of data services into a dynamic multimedia experience. We anticipate this will drive significant growth in the uptake of multimedia content and services.”
