BT today announced that it has won an eleven year strategic ICT services partnership contract worth more than £30 million with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE), the UK’s largest housing authority. Under the contract BT will implement and support a new IT infrastructure for the NIHE.

The programme will begin with a transition of all existing systems to a fully managed service operated from BT’s offices in Belfast and the replacement of a number of core business applications including the systems for grants and housing management.

Paddy McIntyre, NIHE’s chief executive, said: “This strategic partnership is aimed at enhancing NIHE’s role as a provider of social housing by being more accessible and more closely aligned to the communities and the people it serves.

“We chose BT because of its innovative and cost effective proposal and experience implementing large, complex IT programmes to a number of central and regional government bodies.

NIHE has an annual budget in excess of £500 million and a rental income of £265.5 million from close to 100,000 properties. It pays £359 million in housing benefit and approves nearly 10,000 private sector home improvement grants annually.

Alastair Hamilton, director, BT Business, Northern Ireland, commented: “The new IT infrastructure is a key part of NIHE’s modernising services programme which will improve the quality and choice of housing and related services across Northern Ireland. Winning NIHE was a priority for BT as it enabled us to both enhance our presence in Northern Ireland and build on our previous success with the Land Registry.”

The partnership with the NIHE is the latest in a series of successful projects undertaken by BT for regional Governments in the UK. In addition to Land Registry of Northern Ireland, these include work with the Scottish Executive, Scottish Criminal Record Office, Registers of Scotland and the Student Awards Agency Scotland.
