London - 4 January 99 - Tony Gribble, recent Head of Clearing Services at NatWest, has joined financial systems integrator, BancTec Limited. The move, effective 4 January 1999, gives BancTec further significant insight into the complexities and opportunities in the UK clearing market, where the company already enjoys a market-leading position.

In his new role at BancTec, Gribble will be involved with strategic product and service developments for the banking market. He has good knowledge of the industry and will support the development of cheque image archive capabilities currently being considered by many banks and by APACS (The Association for Payment and Clearing Services).

Commenting on Gribble's appointment, Colin Jarman, managing director of BancTec, said, "We are delighted to have attracted Tony to BancTec. We have worked with him for many years, as a valued customer, and have long recognised the wealth of hands-on experience he has acquired as a senior member of the UK's leading Bank. We now have the opportunity to work with Tony to enhance BancTec's knowledge of the processes that underpin all our client's businesses."

Gribble, 51, joined NatWest as a clerk at the age of 17. He progressed up through Lending, Operations and Customer Services, latterly heading up the Clearing Services department since 1993, where he was responsible for over 1600 staff. He was instrumental in the bank's implementation of an advanced, centralised cheque clearing system over the last two years. As Head of Clearing Services, Gribble was one of the Bank's representatives at APACS as a Director of the Cheque & Credit Clearing Company Ltd, and chaired a number of industry committees.
