London, UK – 21st February 2005 – Bizanga, a new UK-based message router company is launching its Intelligent Message Processor™, the first true multi-protocol Message Router, an appliance which solves current and future needs of large messaging platforms for E-mail, SMS, MMS or Instant Messaging. The company is the brainchild of three Internet industry veterans who held senior positions with UUNET: Jerome Lecat, the former Head of European product management; Oliver Lemarie, who was UUNET’s Chief Scientist Officer for Europe; and Marc Sheldon, who was responsible for UUNET’s Asian operations.

Bizanga has been operating for close to two years in stealth mode, developing the product and signing up first customers for the first version of the IMP, an integrated email security appliance. Ultimately Bizanga is targeting a US$ 4 billion market worldwide.

Internet Service Providers and large corporations face increasing costs for managing the multitude of systems necessary to protect their E-mail infrastructure and their users from various E-mail borne threats. E-mail Security Appliances are able to handle large message flows and perform several functions on a single device, significantly reducing the Total Cost of Ownership for E-mail security. Compared to basic email security appliances however, Message Routers also enable new value applications such as automatic mail classification or translation. Based on published market analysis, Bizanga estimates the combined market for Email Security Appliances and Message Routers to be US$ 2 billion for the Internet market by 2008.

Mobile Operators face similar challenges in coping with the increasing diversity of Mobile Messaging, Due to its ability to process all types of messages as a platform while conforming to multiple constraints, here again a Message Router can significantly decrease the cost for the operator. Bizanga also estimates the potential in the mobile market to be US$ 2 billion by 2008.

The Intelligent Message Processor (IMP®) for Internet Security is an E-mail Security Appliance with advanced features well beyond other competitive products:
• It processes 4.2 million emails per hour on a dual XeonTM machine, 5 times faster than the best competitive systems, and 50 times faster than commonly deployed Open Source solutions
• It hosts source filtering technologies and content filtering technologies on the same appliance
• It implements several intrusion prevention techniques to guarantee system integrity
• It supports most best-of-breed Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus services to ensure the best filtering
• It includes a content filtering engine to implement specific policies
• It interfaces with multiple directory servers and routes the messages to multiple Message Stores or gateways
• It is the first product delivered with a 99.99% service availability guarantee

In addition, its unique Workflow Processor® – a graphical rule editor – allows the system administrator to easily edit the policies applied to any group of users. This can be used to replicate the behaviour of legacy systems, making the Intelligent Message Processor simple to deploy even in the most complex infrastructure. Another use is to set rules to implement Corporate E-mail policies such as a ban on communication with competitors. The Workflow Processor brings to the IMP an unprecedented level of flexibility especially useful for Corporations and Service Providers which need to manage multiple mail flows according to specific policies.

Bizanga’s IMP is already deployed at several customers in Europe and Asia and currently serves more than 5 million mailboxes. Specific customer and partner announcements will be made separately in the coming weeks.

Jérôme Lecat, President of Bizanga, commented: “It has taken us quite some time to bring our breakthrough concepts to the level of maturity demanded by Internet Service Providers. Now that we have proved that message routers can be scalable, reliable and flexible, I believe that it is going to set the standard for a new way in design of messaging platforms. But this is only the beginning: We will continue to innovate to make messaging more secure, more instantaneous, and more reliable. As our technology is five times faster than our competitors, we know we can help the industry decrease the cost of messaging tenfold.”

Bizanga was created 18 months ago with 1,5 M€ in financing from Business Angels and expects to receive VC backing in 2005. From day one, Bizanga is pursuing business opportunities in over 10 countries in Europe, Asia and America.
