LONDON, 24 February, 2005 - IntelligentApps, a Sage company and worldwide provider of Business Performance Management (BPM) software, today announced commercial availability of IntelligentApps Release 4.5. This new release has been 100% dedicated to addressing real world customer deployments of global applications of ERP, CRM and Business Performance applications such as Sales Analysis and Product Profitability, eliminating the challenges that have resulted in deploying enterprise scale BPM applications to large user communities.

Commenting on the new scalability capabilities delivered by IntelligentApps 4.5, Paul Martin, Managing Director, IntelligentApps said, “we would like to sincerely thank our customers and partners for actively participating with the research that has resulted in this ground breaking release of our software. Our customers told us that Microsoft’s SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services OLAP engine continues to scale immensely well for staging DataMarts for the largest of corporate BPM projects. However, they also told us that when it comes to delivering massive volumes of information across their corporate networks to individual end users (often in locations with sub optimal bandwidth), none of the front end software tools on the market today can effectively handle the complex issue of delivering BPM applications to several hundred or even thousands of users.

We have taken these real world issues extremely seriously and have replicated entire customer environments in our labs, to ensure that we truly address these global issues once and for all. With 4.5 we look forward to delivering immediate business benefits and performance enhancements to all our customers whilst continuing to raise the bar for our competitors.

One such customer who has assisted with the 4.5 development programme is Reuters. Mark Hill – Business Intelligence Architect for Reuters comments, “Since the release of 4.0, Reuters and IntelligentApps have worked together on improving all aspects of performance. The level of support and overall responsiveness of IntelligentApps during this very intensive and demanding piece of work is a credit to their organisation and has enabled Reuters to realise some very aggressive timescales for the deployment of 4.5. IntelligentApps 4.5 is typically at least 50% faster when opening reports compared to previous releases when operating in a constrained bandwidth environment - a very welcome improvement”.

A key requirement for minimizing user response times is minimizing the amount of data that gets physically transferred across a corporate network. Hill continues, “with 4.5 and the optional XMLA driver provided by IntelligentApps and Digital Aspects, we are seeing an 80% decrease in data shipped across our network when compared to the standard Microsoft environment. In some remote locations, this has resulted in response times being improved by up to 600%”.

However, new features in 4.5 have not been restricted to performance enhancements alone. Several new functional areas such as packaged data entry for budgeting applications, local cube dissemination for external data providers, new Reporting Services integration for combining OLAP and relational data sources in a single application environment and an extremely useful calculation viewer for auditing of KPI purposes, have all been included with development specifications assisted by the IntelligentApps customer base.

Martin continues, “our customers told us that these areas were all of paramount importance. Budgeting using SQL Server Analysis Services is not merely about enabling writeback, it is about providing application packaging to control and guide a budgeting process. IntelligentApps 4.5 provides this functionality especially when coupled with the new calculation viewer, where users can check and step through all levels of a business ratio or KPI to ensure that the information from the DataMart has been calculated correctly”. A major customer behind the specification of the calculation viewer is News International.

Eric Addo, Business Applications Supervisor of News International comments, “our finance users identified an area of auditing capability that had been lacking in the Microsoft based BPM toolsets. The new calculation viewer in 4.5 allows from a simple right click behind any number from any report, full auditing of the input and output ratios that have been used to derive or calculate a formula behind it. Where complex nested calculations have been used, IntelligentApps 4.5 further allows the user to step through these calculations analysing any value or test condition at all times. This helps us to better understand our data and test any new calculation formulas as they are introduced into our applications quickly and accurately”.

Martin concludes, “4.5 is all about eating an ‘elephant in pieces’. We have dissected customer applications to make fundamental changes to key areas of the product, to provide a better overall solution. In performance alone, we have made changes in 25 areas, none in their own right being the answer, but when combined their effects are dramatic”. Hill from Reuters agrees, “for usage with Microsoft PTS, IntelligentApps 4.5 would be the tool of choice, offering seamless Excel integration. Data transmission has been reduced to the bare minimum that PTS needs to function. Again this is a clear and marked improvement and makes 4.5 a best of breed client tool for Microsoft Analysis Services”
