Slough, England – 28 February 2005 – A new mobile solution from systems integration and outsourcing services company, BancTec Limited, will help to revolutionise the building inspection market. BancTec Mobile Capture, already being piloted by several customers, offers a robust, highly efficient solution to capture, process and approve housing surveys and gas inspections, remotely and instantly.

Based on the latest wireless GPRS technology, BancTec Mobile Capture overcomes the problem of missing or unreadable data, and because captured data can be processing and verified in real time, the system offers inspectors and tenants immediate confirmation of status.

BancTec is offering the new package as software only, or as part of a complete pay-as-you-go solution, which includes rental of PDAs, an airtime package, central server, processing and support. The pay-as-you-go package requires no capital outlay - pricing is transaction based and calculated on the number of PDA’s required.

A typical application would provide inspectors with a PDA linked to systems at HQ. Jobs are allocated and sent to inspectors along with tenancy and account details. An inventory of gas appliances is sent when the annual inspection is due, for example, making the job more efficient. Inspectors can have all the relevant information to hand when they go to a job, and can use the PDA application to guide them through an inspection. In addition, the tenant can have confirmation of the outcome of the inspection before the inspector leaves.

BancTec's Mobile Capture removes burden of rekeying data or managing the processing of paper forms. Captured information is downloaded, processed and verified as the survey is being completed, giving the user immediate notification of the inspection status, tenancy details, relevant installation certificates and permits required to approve or carry out activities.

"Mobile technologies allow remote workers to be managed more effectively and for centralised data to be made immediately accessible to them." Commented Rob Liddell, new products director at BancTec. "It allows more traditional paper processes to be eliminated resulting in faster and more cost effective work practices. Surveyors or repairs companies can avoid problems such as having to deal with missing data and customers benefit from an overall improvement in service."

Full tracking and reporting tools are incorporated, providing MIS statistics, audit trails and a range of job completion reports. As all form data is held in a single repository access to these reports can be provided in a number of ways, for example, via a secure archive or web browser facility.

The system runs on any Windows CE/ Pocket PC 2003 device, including smartphones. Software on the devices can be updated remotely, avoiding the need for costly return-to-base upgrades.
