Enterprise plc, a major support services company to the private and public sectors, has chosen Cognito to provide a strategic mobile communications solution that is wireless, real-time and integrated for data exchange with office systems and colleagues. The first programme to benefit from this solution is the Social Housing contract managed by Enterprise-Liverpool, an Enterprise plc joint venture responsible for delivering street-based and housing repair services with and on behalf of Liverpool City Council. Enterprise plc is also planning roll-outs of its mobile solution to the company’s telecoms and domestic gas contracts.

The contract award to Cognito is the result of a strategic review by Enterprise plc where the company identified a critical need for enhanced remote workforce management to achieve improved customer service, greater productivity gains and cost-reduction. The review followed a significant expansion of Enterprise-Liverpool’s business in a move to cover all the City Council’s housing stock, some 19,000 properties, in February 2004.

“We are committed to continually improving our offering to clients. With this in mind the reliability, efficiency and effectiveness inherent in the Cognito solution made the product select easy,” explains Graham Billsborough, IT Director Enterprise plc. “We decided to enhance our already effective work distribution system with an electronic, wireless solution. By doing so, this has enabled us to perform a greater volume of work whilst freeing up time for our management team and coordinators to analyse and respond to real time information.”

After an extensive search of the mobile data market place, Cognito was chosen as a partner that could provide a ‘best fit’ solution. The fact that Cognito takes over the entire running, management and support of the mobile data solution, leaves Enterprise plc free to concentrate on running its own business.

Field engineers will be equipped with GPRS-enabled Personal Digital Assistants (XDAII) on which they will automatically receive work instructions in a structured format and be able to electronically return job updates and closure information. This enables the work scheduling teams at head office to view ‘live’ progress of work instructions as they are progressed by field workers, and to track jobs at every stage. This is achieved by the information audit trail provided as a standard part of the Cognito service fully integrated into WorkManager, the Enterprise Resource Planning management system developed in-house by the partnership’s IT department.

By deploying Cognito’s managed mobile data solution, fully integrated into WorkManager, Enterprise plc expects several benefits, including reducing the number of visits by field engineers to the office to pick up job information, improving the service to customers, minimising disruption for tenants and reducing the amount of paper used in processing work.

“Out of several short-listed suppliers, we chose Cognito because of their experience, their track record, the high reliability and security of their service, as well as the level of functionality their technology platform offers,” explains Andrew Forsyth, Mobile Programme Manager Enterprise plc. “To have all these strengths coupled with a consistent ability to deliver on promises, we expect to have a long and healthy relationship with Cognito.”

Commenting on the contract award, Harry Hayden, Commercial Director for Cognito, said: “With organisations facing increased pressure to perform cost effectively and to tight customer service level agreements, mobile data solutions have become a cornerstone service enhancer.”

“There are several key and unique elements that have attracted customers such as Enterprise Plc to the Cognito managed solution: including our strong partnership approach in both the public and private sector allowing us to develop bespoke services that add true value to service organisations. The fact that we provide a ‘full service wrap’, managing and supporting the service on our customers’ behalves leaves them free to develop their own business whilst also ensuring that there are no hidden additional costs for them to bear.”
