Pinoleum on the up

In the UK, the market for pinoleum blinds is expanding rapidly and, surprisingly, is outperforming its more traditional European market. Demand here looks set to continue at this rate with several factors influencing this growth. In the world of interior design, the pinoleum blind is increasingly recognised as the stylish alternative to pleated or roller blinds.

Ballauff Pinoleum Blinds has been working on a number of new stain effects to further enhance the fashion and has recently installed a new staining dryer which doubles the capacity for producing pinoleum blinds with a coloured finish. This will also give the company greater opportunities to provide special or even unique products for customers.

One new finish gives a ‘wash’ effect whereby the wooden reeds are coated with a permanent colour but this is partially transparent so that the wood’s grain still shows through. Other effects for the future include a water repellent option making the blinds more suitable for use in bathrooms and kitchens, and an anti-allergenic coating, which will help to counteract the ever-present risk of ‘super bugs’ such as MSRA.

Ballauff introduced recently Crème, mini flat reeds stained and varnished and Koto round reed. Prices start from £52 per lineal meter. Available from Heals, Habitat and John Lewis.
