The PROFIBUS Group has published details of the programme for the International PROFIBUS Conference to be held at Coombe Abbey, Coventry, England on the 21st and 22nd June 2005.

Following the format that proved so successful this year, the Conference will feature a comprehensive educational programme covering latest developments in PROFIBUS and PROFINET technology including PROFIsafe, PROFIdrive and PROFIBUS PA supported by case studies, an exhibition and technology demonstrations. These will be delivered in 2 main streams: formal Conference sessions for advanced users and hands-on PROFIBUS Primers for people new to the technology.

The event kicks off with a Keynote address from industry expert Prof George Turnbull. Entitled "Recent Technology Developments - fitting it all together" the presentation will examine key developments, milestones and events in the world of industrial and process automation and show how PROFIBUS continues to meet the ever changing demands placed upon communications technology by advances in automation and control technology. With presentations on Wireless PROFIBUS, PROFINET in the Automotive Industry, advanced motion control, asset management, open system integration and support for complex devices in the process industry, functional safety in manufacturing and intrinsic safety in process applications, the Conference agenda offers something of value to everyone.

The Primers also address many key practical issues confronting PROFIBUS users: Mark Cargill of Purac starts the proceedings with a Practical Guide to PROFIBUS Layout and installation, based on his experiences in designing and implementing process systems. There are sessions on configuration, diagnostics, trouble shooting and commissioning using a range of instruments and techniques, covering PROFIBUS DP, PA and even PROFINET. There's also a practical demo of PROFIsafe from Sebastian Strutt of Erwin Sick and Peter Brown of Siemens.

The event closes on the subject of safety, with presentations from the Simon Brown of the UK's Health & Safety Executive and Wolgang Stripf, Chairman of PROFIBUS International's PROFIsafe Working Group.

Full details of the programme can be found on the Conference web site at, menu item "Programme".

More about the Conference

Building on the success of the 2004 event at Ragley Hall, Warwickshire PROFIBUS UK has booked another fantastic venue steeped in history. Coombe Abbey is a substantial conference centre based in a converted medieval monastery close to Birmingham International Airport and within easy reach of other attractions such as Stratford upon Avon. The venue features its own rather individual style of accommodation which means that speakers, exhibitors and delegates can really make the most of the venue and the networking opportunities it offers. A main feature of the 2-day event will be the Medieval Dinner held on site on the evening of the 21st June.

Day Delegate rates are £120 + VAT per day or £195 + VAT for two days. A complete 2-day package including luxury accommodation and the gala dinner on the Tuesday night costs just £395 + VAT.

To reserve delegate places at the Conference, book exhibition space or simply arrange to visit, email PROFIBUS UK Chairman Bob Squirrell at
