The death of his late Holiness Pope John Paul II marks the end of a momentous phase in the history of the Catholic Church. Pope John Paul II will be forever remembered for his steadfast fight for life, and in his death showed men and women how to die.

Chris Walsh (Ex SPUC Chairman) the group's Pro-Life spokesperson stated “ His late Holiness Pope John Paul 2 was a living testament to the dignity of life and one hopes that the world will now more fully wake up to the horrors of abortion and euthanasia, grave evils he actively and morally opposed as Christ’s vicar and representative on earth. In the forthcoming election, we will actively highlight these and more as issues worthy of consideration in candidate selection for faithful Catholics”

C.A.G asks all Catholics of good conscience to pray for him and also for the Conclave, by which his successor and the successor of Peter will be elected.

Robert Williams, the group’s Secretary commented “ Let us pray for a Pope who will continue his work and mission, but also defend the Church from the ceaseless attacks of the evil one, and exercise a godly discipline and wisdom, particularly in the selection of new bishops.”

John Gunn, the group’s National Coordinator believes it is also no coincidence that Pope John Paul II actually died after attending the Mass of the Feast of Divine Mercy, a feast he personally established three years ago. He remarked “For unknown reasons, this feast is not widely promoted or celebrated generously enough in this country. As a mark of respect and obedience to his late Holiness, we implore the Bishops of England and Wales to more actively promote and support this feast going forward and make it more generously available to the Catholic population. This feast offers a new baptism and for many in the world, this may be their only objective means of obtaining mercy before they face the justice of God”.
