More opportunities for local inventors to win at Innovention 2005

Are you an inventor or innovator based in Hampshire, Dorset or the Isle of Wight? Want to get your idea into the market? Then fill in an entry form for the INNOVENTION 2005 COMPETITION and EXHIBITION at Winchester! Give the experts a chance to help your invention hit the market and give yourself a chance of winning a slice of the £25,000 prize fund on offer!

That's what Pat Steele did last year and she won first prize in the Individual Category. Her brilliant invention of a duvet which conveniently unzips into different sections for washing also won her a special recognition award at the British Female Inventor/Innovator of the Year back in February this year.

She was delighted with her win in 2004 and used her prize money towards the design and installation of her new website at www.panelduvets.com. The final touches to the site were completed on 30th March and it is due to be launched in the next few days.

Ken Teal of Wessex Innovation Service, organisers of the Exhibition has said "past Innovention participants have an excellent record for achieving their ambitions" and this is certainly true of Pat. “Following my win at Innovention and the tremendous support I received from Wessex Innovation, I have seen sales of the duvet rise steadily. Now with the launch of the new website more people will be able to take advantage of the idea. We’ve also opened the site to fellow inventors and are featuring other sleep related innovations, such as the award winning inflatable travel cot” commented Pat.

Pat's invention, like so many others, came from a simple idea which immediately makes you think 'Why didn't I think of that!' After spilling a drink on her duvet, and then battling to get it washed and dried (how do you get a king size duvet into the washing machine?!) she decided it would be much better if she could simply remove a portion of the duvet for washing. Hey presto! The panel duvet was born!

Strategically placed zips allow portions of the duvet to be removed for washing and drying in domestic appliances without the expense of professional cleaning. Not only that, portions of the duvet can be unzipped to turn it into two smaller ones!
