22nd April, 2005 - Intuit Information Technology Solutions today announced a significant contract with Olympus Europe covering 22 European subsidiaries in the group and its three IT Competence Centres. Olympus is forecasting significant return on its investment through increased business performance and cost savings.

Phase I of the implementation will encompass the UK, Ireland, Italy, France, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The solution will be delivered by the Information Systems department, led by general manager Herbert Schaffner, based at the Olympus Europe headquarters in Hamburg.

Giorgio Leone, project manager for Olympus Europe is leading the project. He said: “Until now, all Olympus’ European subsidiaries have operated separate solutions and a variety of approaches to manage their IT functions. Olympus had four key requirements; to increase the level of knowledge sharing in Europe, improve the quality of IT support and response times, achieve visibility of local and corporate IT assets and standardise IT functions. At the same time, local administrators needed to be able to configure the solution to handle specific local needs. Intuit’s software meets all these requirements very well and was selected for its broad functionality as well for its well-designed technical structure.”

Intuit Track-It! will provide Olympus with centralised services for help desk, self-service ticketing, remote control and will provide a solution database that works at both local and corporate level. The solution will also improve license and warranty control, training management, software deployment, asset management, loan management and IT purchasing across the organisation.

A centralised knowledge database, built on the Intuit Track-It! solutions database, will ensure that knowledge on fixes and solutions can be shared effectively by help desk support technicians and users across Europe. Leone anticipates that sharing knowledge and improving user education in this way will be one of the most significant benefits of the solution. He explains: “Knowledge is a critical asset for any organisation. Centralising European knowledge using the Track-It! solutions database will help us to stop ‘reinventing the wheel’. Knowledgeable users will be more productive and need less support, leaving the Help Desk Team more resource for other, more critical problems. Ultimately, this will save money, increase the productivity of end users and IT Support Teams and improve the quality of support we offer to end users.”

Users and key stakeholders in each country were consulted and Leone demonstrated how each national office could achieve significant return on investment and better quality services through IT cost savings, improved business performance and user satisfaction. All feedback was considered and addressed appropriately. This tailored and diplomatic approach has ensured good support from all relevant audiences, from finance and corporate through to local country IT managers and end users themselves.

Leone and the newly-appointed Olympus Italy help desk manager, Cristiano Secci, researched the market and recommended Track-It! as the most suitable product. “We needed a product that would satisfy all our key stakeholders from finance to the IT departments and end users. Track-It! came out well ahead of its competitors for its well-designed technical structure. It demonstrated a very good price to functionality ratio.” Secci explained.

“Also, we felt it was important to work with an established and financially stable organisation. Intuit is one of the world’s largest software companies and this gives us a good level of confidence. The software installed very easily and thanks to the database’s design and structure, and the application itself, we have been able to satisfy both the local and corporate needs of Olympus.” Secci concluded.

Secci found that the software’s intuitive design has meant minimum training for staff; one hour’s training has proved adequate for both end users and for technicians. In both cases no documentation was needed as the software was so clear and intuitive.

Leone continued: “Feedback has been extremely positive, particularly amongst IT managers who are able to significantly reduce time spent on repetitive support activities and spend more time on motivating and rewarding work such as development projects. In addition, the reporting functionality within Track-It! will help these teams to demonstrate their effectiveness clearly.”

Leone expects to rollout the Track-It! software across other European countries later in 2005.
