Partnership defines true cost of enterprise IT
Bracknell, UK, 11 May 2005: HAL Knowledge Solutions, the leading provider of Application Portfolio Management (APM) solutions, today announces a marketing and sales agreement with PlanView Inc., the leading provider of comprehensive IT portfolio management solutions. This partnership will allow enterprise customers, struggling with IT Governance challenges, to fully control and manage legacy applications, while providing a clear framework for the development and integration of new IT assets.
This partnership between the leading Application Portfolio Management (APM) and Project Portfolio Management (PPM) vendors is a logical marriage of complimentary new technologies; the former providing a clear view of legacy systems; while the latter manages the prioritisation, resources and interdependencies of new application development and implementation.
The analyst community, and in particular Forrester Research, is increasingly viewing vendor partnerships in the APM / PPM space as a major driver in the evolution of ’Integrated IT Management’ and comprehensive ‘dashboard’ views to allow IT executives to define the true cost of IT and to manage their function as a business.
“Historically, IT departments have lacked the automated functionality for running IT as a business. They have instead focused on providing this functionality to enhance business management and accountability across other areas such as supply chain management, CRM and HR systems,” said Mark Kusionowicz, vice president marketing at HAL. “In today’s world of budgetary constraints, limited resources and ‘charge-back’ initiatives, the IT department must become a self sustaining, independent business unit. With this partnership, enterprise customers now have the management tools to make this a reality.”
APM analyses and optimises the resources spent to maintain existing applications. By reading source code it records the relationships among application artefacts to enable impact analysis and a complete understanding of the organisation’s legacy environment. Providing the link between old and new, PPM consolidates ongoing project management information into a central data repository, creating visibility of all aspects of planned developments to ensure the delivery of new IT assets on time and within budget.
HAL’s analysis functions automatically discover and make a detailed analysis of the source code and data structures used in applications throughout the enterprise. The PlanView Enterprise solution harnesses that information, allowing IT decision makers enterprise-wide visibility required for key business decisions.
“Today’s IT departments must add value while successfully managing risk and return,” said Tod Klubnik, senior vice president of sales and business development at PlanView. “By adding our PlanView project resource management capabilities to HAL’s Application Portfolio Management solution, we have created a single, comprehensive offering to enable IT departments to understand and manage all assets and resources, to increase productivity and efficiency, and guarantee the highest levels of IT Governance.”
