Riverbed Technology signs up Zycko as first UK distributor

Reading, Berks — 16 May 2005— Riverbed Technology, the performance leader in application acceleration over wide area file systems (WAFS), has signed a deal in the UK with Zycko, a leading global distributor of networked storage solutions.

Zycko will sell the award-winning Riverbed Steelhead device through storage resellers and the data networking channel.. Zycko is one of the fastest growing networked storage distributors, having reached a turnover of $100m in just five years.

Riverbed solves remote office application performance and file-sharing problems for companies in a broad range of sectors and is the only company that delivers a complete solution to these wide area networking (WAN) problems. Riverbed achieves this by addressing all the factors that slow application performance over WANs: high latency, limited bandwidth, and “chatty” transport and application protocols.

“Zycko’s strategy is to work with the best-of-breed vendors and we see Riverbed as the clear leader in application acceleration over WANs,” said David Galton-Fenzi, Zycko's Group Sales Director. “Zycko offers Riverbed access to an extensive customer base and established data network and storage channel, combined with an excellent record at developing markets, channels and business opportunities.

“We are delighted to have signed up Zycko to distribute Riverbed’s WAN optimisation technology across the UK,” said Jon Arnold, Riverbed’s regional director Northern Europe. “Riverbed recently passed the milepost of its 100th enterprise customer globally and we see Zycko as particularly well placed to enable us to build on this rapid growth in the UK.”

Riverbed Steelhead™ appliances accelerate TCP-based applications on WANs by up to 100 times, and simultaneously expands bandwidth ten-fold, allowing geographically dispersed teams to share large files and documents as if they were all working in the same office. Such dramatic improvements in WAN performance enable CIOs to consolidate remote file servers and other infrastructure into centralised data centres where information can be managed more safely and easily. With Riverbed, companies can realise the benefits of consolidation – improved data security and compliance, and reduced operational costs – without sacrificing the performance their remote users demand.
