Following a strategic systems review, Gala Group, one of UK’s leading gaming operators, has chosen Getronics (formerly PinkRoccade) to deliver a business-led, integrated food and beverage solution across Gala’s 197 casinos and bingo clubs. The new system will bring improvements in the customer experience that Gala offers its 6.2 million members as well as increased efficiency and inventory control with real-time financial reporting.

The contract will be implemented by Getronics over the next twelve months. Central systems, including corporate reporting, a retail data warehouse, and centralised inventory management will go live by the end of 2005.

The solution will provide sophisticated inventory functions, web-based client access for querying and real-time reporting, management reporting and sophisticated analysis tools. A number of supplier solutions are involved, including Aloha software from Radiant Systems and Eatec software from Index Systems. Central server hardware is provided by HP, and in the club estate 1,000 EPoS terminals from NCR.

Mark Roper, Programme Manager at Gala responsible for the project, explains: “Outdated legacy systems in our bingo clubs were restricting quality enhancements Gala wanted to implement. Additionally, there was a requirement to improve our focus on inventory management in casinos. The new system will help with both of these goals and will enable us to integrate membership and customer systems to grow our understanding of customers needs, both now and in the future.”

Integrating the new food and beverage system with the membership database will enable Gala Group to investigate new developments such as special promotions, loyalty-based systems and innovative new schemes such as ePurse.

Once live, the new system will bring immediate benefits to Gala and its members. The integrated system will mean improved menu management, flexibility, choice and more frequent menu refreshes. Table service will be speedier through the use of wireless, hand-held technologies for waiting staff. In Gala’s casinos the new systems will also help management track the success of its offering to customers and improve inventory control.

The system was successfully piloted in Gala’s Northampton Sol Central Casino in July, where it replaced the existing EPoS system. The system was then implemented in three new-build, casinos in Glasgow, Bradford and Leicester before the end of November 2004.

Roper says: “The system proved itself to be quick and easy to install at Sol Central and this boosted our confidence in Getronics’ ability to deliver on time and to budget. Getronics has shown a good understanding of our business imperatives as well as demonstrating a responsive attitude.”

The next phase of implementation was the stock management system which was implemented in Northampton in late January. The new EPoS and stock systems for the bingo clubs will be piloted in March 2005. This will be followed by an aggressive roll out to the remaining 27 casinos and 168 bingo clubs by autumn 2005.

After the integrated system is live across all Gala casinos and bingo clubs Getronics will provide 2nd and 3rd line support and service from its 24/7 support centre in Northampton.
