AKAMAI CHOSEN TO PROVIDE PLATFORM FOR INNOVATIVE ONLINE STREAMING PROMOTION OF NEW GAME

London, United Kingdom, 24 May 2005 - Akamai Technologies Limited, a subsidiary of Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading global service provider for accelerating content and business processes online, today announced that its EdgeSuite solution has been chosen by AKQA, to promote the soon-to-be-released Forza™ Motorsport game, available only on Xbox®. To help support anticipated user demands for the launch, Akamai will support an innovative “television-style” Macromedia Flash streaming website to promote the latest game for Xbox. The website (URL: www.fmc.tv) is due to go live on 13 May when the new version of Forza Motorsport is released. Microsoft is a long standing client of AKQA.

Akamai’s EdgeSuite solutions have a robust and functionality-rich platform to provide the scalability and reliability that companies need as is demonstrated by AKQA’s choice of Akamai for the Forza Motorsport launch campaign.”

“Once we had been awarded the contract, we then had to deliver on our concept,” said Andy Hood, Creative Development Director at AKQA. “Looking at the solutions available to do this, we realised that we needed a scalable and reliable platform that required minimal management and input from us and that would provide the bandwidth and performance we needed. Without this kind of solution, the streaming site we envisioned could have been a non-starter.”

Having looked at various solutions, AKQA opted for Akamai’s EdgeSuite solution. EdgeSuite makes use of Akamai’s platform of thousands of servers located globally at the ‘edge’ of the Internet near to end users. This unique network allows Akamai to provide scalable provisioning to customers with added functionality to help with the management and delivery of online marketing campaigns and content.

“The closed loop Macromedia Flash video we wanted to use for the Forza Motorsport promotion would run for about 30 minutes and we needed to plan for around 60,000 site visitors per week, each making a download of around 300 KB/s. Akamai was able to provide all the necessary functionality to meet our requirements,” Dawson continued.
