The Institute for the Management of Information Systems is today launching the first in a series of new service initiatives aimed at providing practical and much needed information systems support for user organisations both in the UK and overseas. The first new service is an Internet based policy library.

To be known as the IMIS Policy Library (IPL), the new library will include sample business policies for Human Resources, IT Security, Sarbanes-Oxley, Data Protection, Health and Safety and many others. Its content, donated by IT suppliers, consultancies, users and regulatory bodies, will be updated with new content on a regular basis. It will also contain a directory of suppliers, service providers and consultancies involved in policy management. IPL is web based and uses the Zequel Technologies DynamicPolicyâ policy management and compliance software solution.

The channel for these new services will be through the existing IMIS corporate membership scheme. IMIS established its corporate membership scheme in 1996 for organisations, suppliers and users alike, to: have the opportunity to discuss individual IT issues and concerns with other organisations in a commercially neutral environment; provide a forum for members’ IT staff to discuss and resolve a wide range of management issues; influence government briefing papers on critical policy decisions; attend workshops and seminars, and join Special Interest Groups.

Ian Rickwood, Chief Executive of IMIS believes that the need has never been greater for independent information systems advice for user organisations both in the UK and overseas. “ I believe that the time is right to step up our focus on the needs of IMIS Corporate members. We see as one of our important roles, the provision of a centre where members can browse sample management policies to help them cope with the deluge of regulations and legislation requiring corporate action. It is the first of its kind and we aim to build it into a major resource for our membership.”

IMIS Corporate Membership covers all areas of business, commerce and public services, all with a common interest in Information Systems and evolving technologies. Its membership base includes both users and providers. Corporate Members are entitled to designate up to two individuals to represent their interests in Institute activities. The cost of Corporate Membership is a £250.00 joining fee plus £250.00 per annum membership (£500.00 in the first year).

IMIS is one of the leading bodies for Information Systems practitioners. Its sets and maintains professional standards for the training and qualification of IT professionals. It has a strict code of ethics that provides a guide for the professional conduct of its membership. It advises members on key management issues and developments affecting their work and is also actively involved in lobbying key Government policy-making committees and regulatory bodies to ensure the interests of its members are protected.
