Supporting the awards will help the next innovation in mobile music

Berlin/ London/ Los Angeles/ Bangkok (June 29th, 2005) - The 2nd Annual Popkomm Innovations in Music & Entertainment Awards (IMEA) announced today the founder and global leader for business enablement at HP Mobile E-Services Bazaar Peter Vesterbacka will be joining our music, mobile and technology industry leaders on the judging panel for the Popkomm Innovation in Music & Entertainment Awards in September. Peter joins Germany’s top-selling contemporary pop artist Herbert Grönemeyer, who will also serve as the event’s patron, and a jury panel representing a who’s who in music, digital media, innovation and entrepreneurship.

“Popkomm is a strong industry platform and it’s a great way to get visibility and attention for all the great new services and applications that are being created today,” says Peter. “There’s an industry problem at the moment in the sense that there are a lot of services and applications around today but not everyone knows about many of them. The awards will hopefully bring some of these to the forefront to help them get visibility.”

“As well as establishing HP’s expertise in identifying and driving mobile e-services, Peter has participated in launching and driving key mobile industry initiatives and standards like the Open Mobile Alliance, Liberty Alliance and MobileMonday, so we are especially pleased that he is joining us in our quest to find the next big thing in mobile music and entertainment,” adds Katja Bittner, Director of Popkomm

Peter adds: “What we’re doing especially with the hp bazaar programme, which we’ve been running for the last five years, is trying to enable the innovation of others by connecting them with each other. We’ve been making connections happen so that it very easy for this new services ecosystem to come together. Working with a lot of different application providers and other technology providers such as Nokia, we really believe that it’s important to work on instigating this development to get more participants into the music ecosystem. So we’ve been bringing together the traditional music industry, technology players, mobile providers to really understand the challenges in each others markets in order to drive through a better and richer end user experience.”
