FESTIVAL FLOWER POWER

In celebration of the festival season, Time Life will free THE FLOWER POWER GENERATION - SUPERHITS, -
double CD album release on 7th July 2005.

This first volume in a far out series of albums of hippy hits from the psychedelic Sixties and Seventies features thirty painstakingly selected recordings performed by the original artists. Compiled by ‘60s music guru, Dave McAleer, the Superhits volume is inspired by the ‘Flower Power’ era and the sounds of the ‘Summer of Love’. From Woodstock to the Isle of Wight, musicians wrote ‘music with a message’ to lead their pilgrimage of peace and try to change the world.

The ultimate sound-track to the heyday of hippy-dom, The Flower Power Generation - Superhits features chart hits from the UK and US from 1965-1969 that were dominated by the Californian West Coast sounds, including Barry McGuire’s groundbreaking 1965 anti-war epic, ‘Eve of Destruction’, Buffalo Springfield’s ‘For What Its’ Worth’ (1967), The Rascal’s anthemic US no.1, ‘People Got to Be Free’ and Edwin Starr’s 1970 Vietnam war protest song, ‘War’. Contributions from London include the biggest hit of the summer of ’67, ‘Whiter Shade of Pale’ by Procol Harem and ‘Hole in My Shoe’ by British supergroup Traffic.

The Flower Power Generation - Superhits is available online at www.timelife.com (£9.99 plus £2.99 p+p). A further 10 volumes will be released in this series.

Compiler and sleeve note writer Dave McAleer started in the music business in 1963, and was an A&R man for RCA and Pye Records during the Flower Power era working on both the UK & US. He has written over three dozen books on popular music including ‘The Encyclopaedia of Hits – The 1960s’, ‘Beat Boom–Pop Goes The Sixties’ and ‘The NME Rock’n’Roll Years’. For the last seven years he has compiled the ‘Guinness Book of British Hit Singles' and his book ‘Hit Singles – The Top 20 Charts’ has sold over 100,000 copies.
