LONDON – Renowned for its world-class collection of antiquities, including the fabled Rosetta Stone, the British Museum is lending a touch of the ancient world to its popular gift shop as well with the addition of Ancienne Ambiance Antiquity-Inspired Scented Candles from September 2005.
 
Priced from £30/$52 for a 190g-6.5oz candle, scents include those historically associated with antiquity, such as: a classical pure orange blossom (Assyria); red rose and jasmine (Persia); natural amber tones (Romana); Mediterranean cypress oil blended with a soft hint of musk (Aphrodite); freshly cut cedar-wood blended with fresh herbs (Phoenicia); red rose and white lily petals (Isis).

Designed and developed by Adriana Carlucci, a graduate of the London College of Fashion with a degree in product development, who has worked for trendy London handbag designer Lulu Guinness and Vogue writer Plum Sykes, Ancienne Ambiance Candle Collection candles have approximately 60 hours burning time and are hand-poured incorporating the finest fragrances from the south of France, with a unique bees-wax mix and lead-free wicks.

Elegant hand-crafted packaging reinforces the antiquity sensibility:  the glass-encased candles come beautifully presented in signature Ancienne Ambiance purple and black boxes (purple was the ancient colour associated with authority and importance) and include an insert of authentic hand-made Egyptian papyrus carrying the description and the ancient associations of the scent.
