RTE, France’s Major Electric Utility, Orders Control Room Processing and Digital Displays from Synelec Visual Systems
The first major transaction since the acquisition of France-based Synelec by Clarity Visual Systems, Inc. is a long term contract including 150 rear-projection displays

Synelec Visual Systems, Inc. has signed an agreement to provide RTE ( — France’s government-owned power transmission company — with complete digital display systems. The multimillion dollar order was sold through Synelec Visual Systems, a French subsidiary that U.S.-based Clarity Visual Systems, Inc. acquired in May.

The three-year contract, serviced through Synelec Visual Systems in France, stipulates that it will become the exclusive provider of video walls for RTE. One hundred fifty of the 67-inch, XGA rear-projection dual lamp displays will be installed in seven separate control rooms. The displays will feature Synelec’s SynLink® processing, which includes a combination of image hubs, image gateways, multi-mouse controller and pixel layer integrator.

“This contract is clearly an acknowledgement of Synelec’s proven credentials in the utility market,” said Kristina Gorriaran, vice president of sales and marketing for Synelec Visual Systems. “It also shows that major enterprises such as RTE are confident in Synelec’s ability to move ahead and deliver products, which is essential to our strategy for continued international growth.” Synelec’s experience in the design of control rooms for utilities, traffic and telecommunications centres spans more than 20 years.

RTE is the sole operator of the French high public power transmission system. This system includes 100,000 kilometres of power lines and transforming substations which connect the power plants, distribution networks, industrial sites and the power networks of France and several neighbouring countries.

Synelec Visual Systems currently supports RTE control centres in Nancy (covering east of France) and Saint-Quentin (covering the Paris region) with four video walls configured with 24 rear-projection displays. The new control room installations will be implemented over a three-year period in various RTE locations, including Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Lomme, La Chapelle sur Erdre, Saint Quentin en Yvelines and Saint Denis.
