PortWise, the secure application access specialist, today announced that international law firm and litigation specialist, Taylor Wessing, has implemented PortWise to address the challenges of secure access of its client-facing Litigation Support System.

Using the PortWise software platform, Taylor Wessing is able to provide its clients with a completely secure means of accessing and reviewing highly confidential case-based, critical information for electronic discovery purposes, and applications, from any device in any location, negating the issue of potential security breaches or hacking.

Tim Hyman, Head of IT, Taylor Wessing, commented, “We were building a client-facing version of our Litigation Support System in order to provides client access to high profile case material. The remote access functionality on the system wouldn’t work due to the many layers of security parameters, including fire walls and proxy servers on the system, so we needed to identify a solution that would work in conjunction with our existing technology infrastructure, that was easy to use and navigate, yet would provide total security.”

After a thorough assessment of the current products available on the market, Taylor Wessing was introduced to PortWise by Agnew Associates.

“The claims that PortWise were making seemed too good to be true,” said Hyman. “Our infrastructure support team evaluated the product and we knew we had found the answer. PortWise delivers on its claim of providing a comprehensive, integrated and very secure approach to providing access to any application from any location. What we like most about the product is the fact that it is independent and will work with our litigation system and with any application, and recognises source devices. We are committed to providing our clients with the highest level of service, thus the client-facing version of the litigation system had to be reliable, easy to use, and importantly, able to guarantee the security of the information being accessed. The Mobile Phone Based Two Factor authentication gives us peace of mind and has the ability to audit who has accessed what information and when, giving our clients the confidence to use the system without worrying about today’s security threats o
f phishing and the theft and fraudulent use of identities.”

PortWise is the industry’s first fully integrated and completely extensible software platform for Secure Application-Centric Access. The PortWise software platform provides a holistic approach to secure internal and external access to applications. Using the PortWise software platform, it is possible to provide completely secure access to critical information and applications for internal users, the mobile workforce and integrated distributed partner networks from any device in any location.

Two Factor authentication requires users to input a username and password, as well as hold some kind of unique possession, such as mobile phone or PDA. A one-time password is then sent to or generated from this unique device and is valid for a short period of time.

“Before we found PortWise, we couldn’t find a solution to make our remote access functionality work and now, we have a platform which easily integrates, provides the security capabilities we need and removes the potential damaging security risks to both our clients and our company,” said Hyman. “PortWise helps us guarantee a real value add to our clients and without it, we wouldn’t be able to offer the client access to all case materials, so effortlessly - we really had no choice, we needed to use PortWise.”

Due to the success of the PortWise solution, Taylor Wessing now intends to use the solution for all client-facing online facilities and is evaluating the product for its remote access capabilities for its lawyers across the UK.

Taylor Wessing is the latest law firm to adopt PortWise as its corporate standard for secure, remote application access. The company is seeing continued commercial momentum with leading law firms as the legal industry embraces secure, remote application access.
