LAN-to-WAN Connectivity at near-ISDN speed over standard phone lines

Designed to help small businesses cope with increasing network congestion and Internet access demands, Electronic Frontier Ltd (EFL) have announced the release of a new Bridge/Router from ZyXEL, a leading manufacturer of Internet access equipment. The ZyXEL Prestige 128MH offers an alternative to employing digital technology such as ISDN or leased lines; it is a dual analogue router with a built-in 4-port hub that provides speeds that rival ISDN and enables simultaneous Internet and LAN connectivity over standard phone lines.

Priced at £429 (excl. VAT), the Prestige 128MH is ideal for multiple LAN users. It includes two internal 56K/V.90 modems and one serial WAN port for connecting to an ISP or remote network site using a terminal adapter or external modem. The two modems and serial WAN port can be bundled to provide greater bandwidth or used separately to handle multiple tasks. A bandwidth-on-demand feature automatically dials or releases additional lines depending on the level of traffic, thus saving line costs.

Cost-saving connectivity:
The Prestige 128MH saves businesses bottom-line costs in both the subscription of Internet services and purchasing of additional hardware. To reduce Internet service provider (ISP) costs, a Single User Account (SUA) permits an unlimited number of users to access the Internet while subscribing to only a single IP address. This saves the expense of purchasing multiple Internet accounts to accommodate all a business' users. On the hardware end, the Prestige 128MH eliminates the need for purchasing additional modems to establish LAN-to-WAN connections for multiple users. The Prestige 128MH can handle Internet access, a LAN to LAN connection and a dial-in user simultaneously.

Comprehensive network management - security and control:
The Prestige 128MH's ability to act as a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server simplifies the set-up of clients (including Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT) and the administration of IP addresses. It also provides several levels of security to protect mission-critical data and applications, including SUA/NAT, data filtering, calling line identification, automatic call-back and user authentication.

It offers Multi-protocol support for IP, IPX and, by supporting Microsoft PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunnelling Protocol), it can also act as a VPN (Virtual Private Network) gateway, thus enabling Internet tunnelling. This can dramatically cut long-distance call charges for remote dial-in. Also, PPTP offers enhanced security when sending data packets through the Internet tunnel.

Easy-to-use, affordable solutions for SoHo and SME users:
Commenting on the release of the Prestige 128MH, Gary Stevens, Sales Director of EFL said, "The Prestige 128MH is yet another product from ZyXEL which pushes the boundaries of easy-to-use, affordable connectivity solutions for SoHo and SME users. It offers an abundance of features yet is very easy to install and use. Because users can access the Internet via the same analogue modem dial-up technology to which they are accustomed, the product is much more accessible to less-experienced users."

The Prestige 128MH is available from the beginning of February 1999 from selected retail outlets and off the page resellers. Contact EFL on 0118 981 0600 for details of nearest stockist.
