SAN DIEGO, California, Overland Data, Inc. (Nasdaq NMS: OVRL), a technology leader in data storage and backup products, today unveiled the MinilibraryXpress™, its latest DLTtape* backup product, which provides the performance and reliability of Overland’s award-winning robotics design with a breakthrough in price/performance to offer unparalleled value to IS managers for network server backup.

Overland's MinilibraryXpress is designed to meet the needs of organisations with servers or networks of servers with disk capacity in the range of 50 to 200 gigabytes in an affordable, upgradeable dual-drive-capable library. The MinilibraryXpress is the ideal automated storage solution for price-conscious users who don't need the high capacity or scalability of a larger library.

Paul Leonard, marketing manager at 4Front Networks, said that the MinilibraryXpress hits the "sweet spot" for the emerging non- scalable library market with up to a half-terabyte of capacity and dual DLTtape drive support. "Overland has consistently delivered innovative solutions -- the LibraryXpress for customers with scalable library requirements and the LoaderXpress for cost-conscious, entry-level customers. We believe Overland has created another winner with the dual-drive MinilibraryXpress," said Leonard.

"The seemingly non-stop growth in the demand for networks, coupled with new storage architectures such as Storage Area Networks, has spurred the creation of the mini-library market segment," said Steve Richardson, Vice President of Marketing at Overland. "The MinilibraryXpress is the ideal combination of performance, capacity and value, delivering the reliability and multi-drive capabilities of the LibraryXpress along with the simplicity and value pricing of our single drive LoaderXpress unit to meet the needs of this new market."

A 15-cartridge media magazine simplifies installation and removal of DLTtape cartridges in the MinilibraryXpress, allowing up to 525 gigabytes of native capacity to be installed in a single operation. The magazine feature also ensures that a complete multi-cartridge backup data set is stored securely, minimising the potential of losing cartridges that could corrupt the backup. An optional barcode reader is available to automate media management functions.

All MinilibraryXpress functions can be controlled via an easy-to-use front panel LCD screen that provides direct access to library system statistics and status information on the robotics, drive and magazine. Operators can also configure parameters either through the front screen menu or via host software operation, allowing virtually unlimited flexibility to achieve specific data management goals.

Customers can order the MinilibraryXpress in a minimum configuration to meet current storage needs and then expand and upgrade the unit as their requirements change. The MinilibraryXpress can be configured with a single DLT4000 or DLT7000 drive and then expanded with a second drive to double native throughput to up to 36 gigabytes per hour. Overland offers the MinilibraryXpress in tabletop or rackmount enclosures, with single-ended or differential SCSI. MSRP starts at £6,325.

The MinilibraryXpress can be used with Overland's new Web-TLC technology announced earlier this year. Web-TLC is the first platform-independent technology that allows a central administrator to remotely configure, monitor and control the library from anywhere in the world. It is expected to be available for all Overland DLTtape products in the second quarter.
