SOLAR Migration Project Reaches Key Milestone; Phase One Complete

Marlow – 20th January 2006 – Allianz Cornhill Schemes has successfully transferred 1.48 million Extended Warranty Insurance Policies, reaching a major milestone and completion of phase one of its SOLAR Migration Project with data migration specialist Kognitio. Allianz Cornhill Schemes specialises in providing mass-market bespoke insurance and administration services, offered to the consumer by its corporate partners, including major retailers, financial institutions and household goods manufacturers.

To maintain its market lead, the insurer has commissioned a new administration system - SOLAR - to replace its legacy software application. All Policy data is to be migrated to SOLAR by mid-2006 followed by the de-commissioning of the legacy platform. Kognitio was selected by Allianz Cornhill Schemes to support the data migration element of the programme, because it is a specialist in data migrations for the insurance and financial services sectors. Kognitio’s own data migration methodology and integrated suite of migration tools - the Data Factory Toolkit (DFTK) – has been used by Allianz Cornhill and is specifically designed for the complex, high volume migrations that typify the insurance industry.

“SOLAR is being implemented to strengthen and extend our administration capabilities and to provide an appropriate platform for our future needs. To gain the full benefit of the replacement system it is imperative that data is migrated successfully and accurately onto the new platform. With Kognitio’s expertise and DFTK software we have not only successfully completed the first phase but now have a sound data migration methodology in place for the remainder of the project,” said Tim Tresadern, IT Manager, Allianz Cornhill Schemes.

Kognitio worked alongside the staff of the insurer providing skills transfer in its tools and methodology as well as consultancy and support during the design and development phases of the project culminating in the live migration weekend in November 2005.

Starting on Friday evening, the configured migration process, written using DFTK, processed the policies extracted from the legacy platform and prepared (transformed) them ready for loading into the new SOLAR target database - this stage was completed in 6.5 hours. Subsequently, through Saturday, again with the support of DFTK, the transformed data was loaded into the target database in 3 hours. During the whole process DFTK Audit scripts were run on a regular basis to check values such as premium totals etc, and at every checkpoint these audit scripts balanced perfectly. Of the 1.48 million polices processed, only 85 were rejected, and upon investigation these were all found to be valid rejects on the grounds of incorrect source data.

The Allianz Cornhill project team completed final tests on the data over the weekend using the new SOLAR operational system and the system went live ready for business on the Monday morning.

“The partnership between Allianz Cornhill Schemes and Kognitio has worked exceptionally well. The success of this project is due to a combination of Kognitio’s migration methodology and tools, and the dedication and commitment of our clients’ project team,” said Ben Cooper – Operations Director, Kognitio.

The project team is now moving on to further migrations and is on-target to complete the whole project successfully by the planned completion date in mid 2006.
