LONDON - 27/02/2006 - The Butler Group believes that Avoco Secure’s product secure2trust can provide organisations with a level of protection for content that cannot be provided by other types of applications.
In the report Sue Clarke, senior research analyst at the Butler Group outlines Avoco Secure’s Enterprise Rights Management solutions and details the competitive advantage secure2trust has in the document content security market.
Highlights from the report cover…speed of implementation and deployment, ease of use, non-disruptive, dynamic workflow security, digital identities…
The Butler Group report states, ‘One of the strengths of secure2trust is in its architecture as a peer-to-peer product that does not require a server implementation, and the fact that the authentication information is held within the document itself.’… ‘The major advantage of this approach is that a server is not required for access to a protected document. This means that documents can be shared with external companies while at the same time retaining control over the access to and use of documents.’
Gerry O’Brien, CEO of Avoco Secure said, ‘In the 20th century the traditional Enterprise DRM systems were licensed server based. Because of this they took weeks if not months to install as well as setup and the clients incurred very substantial additional consultancy charges for these services. I believe that in the 21st century all Enterprise DRM system will eventually move to a P2P model. Cost, security, complexity of both integration and deployment will be the principal drivers for this’. Bob Weber at Managingrights.com recently commented, ‘P2P is one of the Holy Grails of DRM’…‘P2P makes DRM life more convenient, useable and flexible’.
The Butler Group comment, ‘As a peer-to-peer product, secure2trust is simple and quick to install, with the main skill required being knowledge of business document processes, in order to gain optimum use of the product. The average time for implementation for a client is minutes…for the Manager installation takes minutes and approximately an hour for document Recovery setup…’
In the Butler Group’s opinion… ‘It is the ability to use secure2trust within other applications in a non-disruptive manner that is the real strength of the product.’
‘One of the strengths of the ‘Avoco Secure’ solution, in Butler Group’s opinion, is the ability to centrally or locally create security templates based on security policies and enforce security settings on documents so that the end user is unaware that security is being applied.’
‘Secure2trust can be embedded into ECM products, and it is very tightly integrated with Documentum eRoom™. Secured eRoom™ is a platform that provides document sharing, which allows users to share and collaborate on documents in a secure and safe manner, with secure2trust providing seamless document collaboration and control. Using Secured eRoom™ the identity of the sender and recipient can be guaranteed, which satisfies the Royal Bank of Scotland’s TrustAssured™ digital credentials.’
Continuing the theme of ECM integration Butler commented that ‘Security is provided with secure2trust throughout the entire lifecycle of a document. Digital restrictions and authentication can dynamically change as the document progresses from one stage of the workflow to the next. Because the security is held within the document itself, the document can be sent to people outside the organisation who will be unable to access the content unless they are authorised to do so. By embedding the security into the document itself, secure2trust can be easily embedded into ECM and other applications, utilising the workflow capabilities of the host application to change access rights dynamically as the document progresses through its lifecycle.’
‘Smartcards and digital credentials, like x509 digital certificates, enable secure access and signing of DRM protected documents and are an essential requirement for information sharing between companies or individuals. Combined with applications like secure2trust these will be an important enabler of eCommerce.’ commented Sandy Porter, Business Development Director of Avoco Secure, ‘secure2trust includes two factor authentication e.g. chip and pin which is particularly important for the global financial industries.’
‘The Butler Groups independent and comprehensive technology audit, written by Sue Clarke, will be key document in any enterprises decision making process.’ said Gerry O’Brien, CEO of Avoco Secure.
