Industry Group to Clarify Technology Issues, Speed Acceptance of QoS

London - 26 February 1999 - Orchestream is the only UK company that has joined the Quality of Service Forum (QoS Forum), a new multi-vendor initiative dedicated to promoting the deployment of Quality of Service technologies on IP networks.

Orchestream is one of the 16 charter members of the QoS Forum, offering its experience and market understanding to enable the Forum to catalyse the next generation Internet and enhance audio, video and data applications on IP networks.

Charles Muirhead, CEO and president of Orchestream, participated in the founding meeting. He said: "Now that the industry has a forum, we are really excited about sharing our technological advances and understanding. It's also great that a UK company is at the forefront of solving a technological challenge that will set the agenda for the next generation in networking technology."

The Forum's key directive is to demonstrate QoS capabilities within multiple IP networks and products, in order to accelerate its understanding and
adoption amongst network managers of ISPs and enterprises. To develop the QoS agenda within the networking industry, the QoS Forum will facilitate interoperability testing and measurement, and provide a comprehensive QoS technology resource centre.

Along with Orchestream, QoS Forum members are 3Com Corporation, Avici Systems, Cisco Systems, Extreme Networks, Fujitsu Nexion, IBM Corporation, IPivot, IP Metrics, IPHighway, Lucent Technologies Inc., Microsoft Corporation, Netcom Systems, Newbridge Networks, Nortel Networks and Qosnetics.
