‘McDATA’s European Management to Battle with Professional Elite Riders and Graded Groups in a three-day, 600km”Tour de France’ Endurance Ride, Raising Money for Children’s Charities

McDATA Corporation (Nasdaq: MCDTA/MCDT) today announced that it is sponsoring three members of its European management team to compete in the grueling 600km, three day London to Paris Cycle Tour from 29 June to 2 July 2006. American Michael Hughes, McDATA’s General Manager Northern Europe, Frenchman Daniel Sazbon, McDATA’s VP OEM and Channels for EMEA, and Norwegian Sten Frode , an Account Executive, comprise ‘Team McDATA’ with company sponsorship of £995 ($1,800) each.
Now in its third year, the endurance event is a professionally organized ‘Tour de France’ style ride with support vehicles, mechanics and rolling road closures over 600 km of tarmac. Departing from Hampton Court Golf Club in Kingston, Surrey the tour will pass through Portsmouth, St Malo, Alençon, Beynes, Versailles and finish in Paris. Participants will ride in graded groups along side both amateurs and professionals. The event will be covered by Cycling TV, the fastest growing cycling internet channel. The final award ceremony will be held in Beynes (outside of Paris), and will be hosted by the Mayor, Local Sports Minister, and the Chairman of Egg Design and Marketing, sponsor of the Leaders' Yellow Jersey.

“We’ve been juggling training with work over a number of months now in order to prepare for the ride and all three of us are looking forward to the event,” said Michael Hughes, General Manager Northern Europe for McDATA. “When traveling on business, I call ahead to find the tallest hotel in the area so I can run up and down the flights of stairs as part of my training. The event attracts riders from all over the world. It will be a great combination of social interaction between riders of all levels along with terrific scenery and team camaraderie.”

The Tour is supported by professionals who give their time in return for collected donations to the chosen charities. The two charities for 2006 are Schools for Children of Cambodia and Morning Star Children’s Centre in South Africa.
