Uttlesford District Council has unwillingly cancelled a Public Examination of the current Stansted expansion application, after BAA’s withdrawal from the process

BAA has withdrawn from a series of special meetings of Uttlesford District Council’s Development Control Committee. The meetings, scheduled for 22nd and 23rd August, were to be in the form of a public examination of BAA’s application to expand its use of Stansted Airport, but they have now been cancelled.

The meetings were intended as a follow-up to UDC’s highly successful Public Engagement Week (3rd – 7th July), which was part of the Council’s commitment to full transparency on Stansted issues. However, as BAA are central to their usefulness, the Council has decided they can serve no purpose and has cancelled them.

“We are very disappointed that BAA has made this decision,” commented Councillor Christina Cant, chair of the Development Control Committee, “as we felt these meetings would be very useful and informative for the public. However, as BAA have declined to participate there seems little benefit to be gained by holding them. We are keen to emphasise that other Committee meetings will continue as scheduled.”
