Nominations for the annual Pathfinders ‘Employer of the Year’ award opens today to all UK media companies. This is the only industry award for companies who have gone the extra mile to attract, retain and invest in employee performance and development.

Entries need to be submitted to Pathfinders by Friday 6th October 2006 with the winners being announced at a prestigious awards ceremony in London in November.

Sue McLelland, Divisional Leader at Pathfinders comments, “The media industry is the top career choice for graduates, but many companies are failing to provide clear training and development opportunities for first jobbers and this needs to radically change.”

“Research from our annual ‘Blue Book’ salary survey in 2006 highlighted that 91% of graduates place career development before money as the top priority when selecting a job. Our award will therefore go to the company that has proved its commitment to employee training and development, and supporting evidence from employees will be scrutinised.”

Last year’s winner, Profero Digital Marketing had a unique training strategy and stood out because it includes all staff, from the most junior to senior, in important business decisions.

Tina Brazil, People Director of Profero and member of the 2006 judging panel says, “Winning the Pathfinders award has enhanced our reputation in the industry, with existing and prospective clients but most importantly with our staff. A shortlist of up to ten entries will be drawn up in October and independently judged by a panel that includes representatives from the Chartered Institute of PR (CIPR), the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) and the Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA).

Judge Mary Budd, Employment Affairs Advisor, IPA says, “The media industry relies heavily on its people and companies that place great emphasis on nurturing their talent should be recognised. The Media Employer of the Year Award is the only accolade that acknowledges that agencies can be decent, caring and imaginative employers too.”

About the Pathfinders Media Employer of the Year Awards 2006

The Pathfinders Media Employer of the Year is the UK’s only annual award to recognise media companies’ ability to inspire and develop their employees.

The judging panel will be chaired by Angela Mortimer, Chairman, Angela Mortimer Plc. Examples and quotes from employees who have had career progression facilitated by the organisation.

Any innovative initiatives that the organisation has in place to improve staff retention and reflect today’s emphasis on quality of life, e.g. sabbaticals, soft benefits.
