Forget Chloe handbags and the latest light reflecting concealer, a self-cleaning toilet is at the top of most women’s wish list of innovative products. The loo has long become the battleground in the war between the sexes. Now it’s official. According to the new survey by Always Freshelle, nearly 40% of women yearned for a self-cleaning loo. We must finally be getting tired of doing the lion’s share at home – a self-operating vacuum cleaner came a close second.

Unsurprisingly, a woman invented the dishwasher. Perhaps it’s time we got around to inventing new products to help us deal with loo rage. It’s no surprise Sharon Osbourne is happily married – she’s invested in a toilet with an automatic self-closing lid.

We’re not fussed about smell-free nappies – less than 2% of women in the survey said they’d most want these whilst unladderable tights accounted for just 7% of the vote.

Inventors can get it right for women. Modern sanitary products are now so well designed, they top the list of items we can’t live without. Nearly half the women in the Always Freshelle survey now find them indispensable, not surprisingly when you learn that women originally used leaves! Underwired bras and ceramic hair straighteners featured next on the list of essential products, scoring 30% and 16% respectively. Good hair days and pert breasts are clearly vital to our well-being.

The contraceptive pill is seen by the majority of women – nearly 50% of the women surveyed – as the most innovative scientific development for women in recent years. This isn’t surprising – women were finally free to enjoy sex without relying on a man’s promise whilst on heat! Orgasms aren’t, however, quite as important as might be expected – the vibrator polled just 5% of the vote.

It’s time we started thinking of products to make our lives easier. Only 25% of women thought enough time was spent coming up with innovative products for women. We’ve done it before. As well as the dishwasher, women also invented the bra, windscreen wipers and disposable nappies. And for those men who think women can’t read maps, it was a woman who invented the A-Z!
