3D mobile audio boutique gets the big bang as ex chief of Bang & Olufsen takes the board chair

London, 16 August 2006 - British technology company Sonaptic today announces the appointment of new board chairman Anders Knutsen, Bang & Olufsen’s former turnaround chief. Knutsen joins Sonaptic after a thirty-year career with consumer electronics giant B&O where ultimately he was Chief Executive and President.

At B&O, under Knutsen’s leadership, the company’s share price rocketed 55-fold in a decade. He was responsible for record-breaking profits in the years 1993-2000: He and his management team refocused the business strategy; established central control over marketing and sales; and revived a high-end brand that in the late eighties and early nineties was in danger of being priced out of the market.

On the board of Sonaptic, Knutsen will help the audio upstart with 360-surround sound technologies that make mobile devices as good to listen to as high end home hi-fi’s break into European and North American markets.

“Sonaptic poses a real challenge to the traditional audio industry. We’ve always assumed that for great audio, equipment needed to be a certain size. And for decades that was true. But now, everyone wants to talk or listen, watch or play – and they want to do it on the go. The question Sonaptic poses is ‘What if we could give people on the move an audio experience as rich and immersive as what they have in their living rooms?’

“When the inventive guys from Sonaptic, creators of the technology to do just that, visited me they gave me a concert. In one sitting, I became a customer for life. Confident that I could help the team bring this extraordinary sound to the widest possible public, I’m pleased to now also be a member of the team,” says Knutsen.

At Sonaptic, Knutsen joins an impressive management ensemble including audio entrepreneur and Sonaptic CEO David Monteith, a veteran of EMI Labs, and NED Glenn Collinson, co-founder and Executive Vice President of CSR Plc, the leading chip provider for Bluetooth and other wireless technologies.

"We’re pleased to welcome Anders Knutsen to Sonaptic’s board. His track record at Bang & Olufsen in the 90s is outstanding: he and his team made the brand at once accessible, exclusive and highly profitable. Anders has a great understanding of consumers, and how excellent design is vital inside great technology companies. Anders adds an important new dimension to our team,” says Collinson.
