Leading UK IT distributor Westcoast Ltd today announces the acquisition of Clarity Computer Distribution Ireland from Horizon Technology Group.

The purchase will enhance the already strong synergies between the two businesses. Like Westcoast, Clarity has a strong focus on a narrow range of vendors enabling it to offer a rich service to both its vendors and its resellers, echoing the “narrow & deep” business model that Westcoast have successfully cultivated.

Equally, Clarity is a leading player for HP within its territory, just as Westcoast have been since the company was founded in 1984.

Andy Dow, Marketing Director of the Westcoast Group said of the acquisition, “By maintaining the focused business model and bringing together best practices, we believe that there are tremendous opportunities for growth both around Clarity’s existing vendors as well as partnerships held by Westcoast in the UK.”

“Westcoast is constantly expanding its customer base and reaching deeper into the market. Being present in the Irish market is totally in line with our growth strategy.”

Adrian Foley, Managing Director of Clarity Ireland, welcomed the move saying that it would boost the company’s product portfolio and customer service offering. He said that the development would accelerate competition in the Irish €500 million technology reseller market.

“We see this as a highly positive move for our Irish customers and staff. Westcoast is a specialist IT distributor and understands how the channel works. Clarity can now offer its Irish customer base a complete computing range from desktop PCs, notebooks, high end server and mobile solutions to network products, printers, peripherals and related accessories and consumables.”

Clarity Distribution Ltd has a turnover of €120 million, 60 staff and is HP’s largest distributor in Ireland.

Dow confirmed that there will be no immediate changes to Clarity’s structure, stating, “We are very excited about the opportunities this presents; we have a great team in Ireland and are looking forward to working with them. Westcoast will be retaining the Clarity name, management team and staff in Ireland and our business will continue as normal. Westcoast are totally focused on distribution in the same product areas as Clarity. We believe we will deliver them the framework to grow both their revenue and their market base. This is going to be an exciting period.”

Established in 1984, Westcoast has become a leading national wholesale distributor within the UK. Westcoast has built a product portfolio spanning the whole computing spectrum, ranging from desktop PC and notebook products through to high end server solutions, network products, printers, peripherals and related accessories and consumables.

Westcoast adopts a focused approach to both product range and customer account management. The increasing emphasis on these two issues has enabled the company to enjoy constant growth.

Clarity was established in 1999 following the merger of leading IT distributors, Clarity Computer Distribution and Gericmar (set up in 1993 and 1985 respectively). Clarity employs about 60 people at its 41,000 sq ft headquarters in Tallaght, Dublin 24.
