The Photo Imaging Council, PIC, has recently been liaising with the Transport Security & Contingencies, within the Department for Transport (DfT) regarding the recent airline security issues and how photographers manage to travel with photographic film stock.
The DfT informed PIC “We do appreciate that the new security regulations do cause some inconvenience to yourselves and the members you represent. As you will appreciate the new requirements were not entered into lightly and they are there to help combat a very real threat. Restricting the size of hand baggage does make it that much easier to look for items that are of particular concern. At the present time there are no plans to change the current regulations though they are under constant review. Film can go into hand luggage and it is up to the airport to ensure that all items are carried safe through x-ray and hand search as necessary.”
Basically, that means business as usual for ALL film users.
