TOPIC: The new Desang Slim model in plastic is great for kids. On the front, a see-through window lets them add in pictures and personalize it so it fits in with their tastes, be it Barney, Barbie, Batman, Barbarella or Brad Pitt.

Desang Ltd sells kitbags for people with diabetes – estimated at 2 million people in the UK today. The kitbags keep everything in one place, making living with the condition just that little bit easier. They’re nice-looking too, properly designed as a carry case for diabetics to keep their equipment in, at home or abroad.

The latest model is a version of the Slim is in blue plastic with a transparent, personalisable window on the front. This can be used by children, young adults (and their parents) to make the kitbag look they way they want them to.

Beth Golding (pictured) is now eight years old. She’s had insulin dependent diabetes since the age of four. She loves her kitbag and says, “I think my kitbags is really fun. I have a dragon in it right now, but if I change my mind I can change the picture. I put everything in it I need with me for the day.”

Beth’s mum, Juliette, adds, “These kitbags are great. As a mother of a child with diabetes, when she was younger I’d to administer her blood tests and injections. Now Beth is at school, she can do it all herself. Having a kitbag makes it easier, and she thinks the bag is cool. Her teacher likes it as well. If Beth feels a bit funny, her teacher knows what to look for and how to help her test herself and take something sugary if she needs to, which is an additional bonus.”

Sue Marshall, founder of Desang Ltd. says, "It’s vital that younger people with diabetes take their kit around with them, but many feel self-conscious about using their diabetes equipment. This new version is designed with them in mind. It carried the diabetes management tools that are needed on a daily basis, but looks like a normal part of school life. Whether a child is five, fifteen or any age, they can illustrate it in their own fashion and make it part of their normal lifestyle without attracting unwanted attention. In that way they should be able to attain better diabetic control.”

The company was set up in 2004 by Sue Marshall, who has had insulin dependent diabetes since 1972. She designed the product, sourced the manufacturer and the funding. Since the website was launched, the kitbags now sell worldwide in increasing quantities and word of mouth is spreading.

Desang kitbags come in two models. The Classic model contains everything required to monitor and administer type 1 diabetes, or type 2 diabetes treated by insulin. The Slim model is ideal for those who only use one insulin during the day.

Both models are available in bonded black leather. The Classic is also available in a luxury leather version. The Slim is now available in blue plastic, aimed specifically at children and young adults.

They are available online at or on 0870-300-2063
