London, 23 October 2006 – INDEX Conferences and Exhibitions Organisation Est, specialists in organising international, national and regional medical, scientific and trade conferences and exhibitions, has referenced research statistics from the UK's Department of Trade and Industry alongside information from the Arab British Chamber of Commerce to reinforce the message that the United Arab Emirates is leading the way with regards to investment opportunities for businesses in the UK.

“With methods of communication continually improving and making the world a smaller place I’m not at all surprised that United Kingdom organisations and businesses are increasingly gaining confidence to expand their operations overseas,” said Easa Saleh Al Gurg, Ambassador for the Embassy of The United Arab Emirates in London.

“The latest statistics show that the level of British goods being imported to the United Arab Emirates is growing rapidly. Logically, the next step for these exporters would be to build offices or manufacturing plants in the region. This conference and exhibition should provide most of the answers to the questions raised by any company wanting to extend their business into this region,” Easa Saleh Al Gurg continued.

According to information shared by the Publications Unit of the Arab British Chamber of Commerce, only 20% of the UAE population are actually nationals; the rest are expatriate employees. It is estimated that there are 120 thousand UK citizens working in the Gulf, mainly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi; of these 70-80% are in executive positions.

Launching the first conference and exhibition of its kind in the UK, INDEX Conferences & Exhibition Organisation Est. is promoting the ‘Emirates-UK Business Investment Opportunities Exhibition’ as a forum for investors interested in overseas markets to come together to discuss and debate the business benefits for investments in the United Arab Emirates. The conference and exhibition environment that INDEX is creating will also enable delegates to spend time with specialists in the overseas investment market so they can obtain the highest level of information available to them, under one roof.

“The research findings fuel the discussion that the United Arab Emirates is the key location for businesses looking to make an investment overseas,” said Abdul Salam Al Madani, President of INDEX Conferences and Exhibitions Organisation Est. “We’re confident that the three day event will not only answer questions but will also educate attendees on what products other companies are already successfully manufacturing and/or exporting to the region.”

Statistics shared by the UK's Department of Trade and Industry show that Dubai is now the UK's 10th largest export market globally, up from 17th place in 2004, with UK exports to Dubai rising 134% in 2005 to reach a total value of 30.9 billion Dirhams (£4.76 billion). UK exports to the UAE as a whole increased by 106% in 2005 to 36.2 billion Dirhams (£5.57 billion) and trade with the Northern Emirates grew by 36.5% and was worth 3.7 billion Dirhams (£571 million). Two-way trade between the UAE and UK also increased significantly last year to 45.4 billion Dirhams (£6.99 billion) from 24.7 billion Dirhams in 2004 (£3.8 billion).

“As the one-stop platform for commodities trading, Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) provides industry-specific market infrastructure that enables the development of a dedicated commodities market place in Dubai,” said Ms Gaiti Rabbani, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at DMCC. “During this forum, DMCC will be showcasing its portfolio of initiatives specific to gold and precious metals, diamonds and coloured stones, energy and other commodities sectors alongside the attractive free zone component of our business model.”
