Having been in Design and Marketing for most of her life, Hazel Barry has plenty of knowledge when it comes to marketing her own brand of toiletries. By the age of 10 she was making perfumes and selling them around the neighbourhood at 15 was designing her own clothes. In her early 20’s Hazel set up a Design Company “Hazel’s Designs”, supplying a small amount of perfumes and her own designer clothes, which, she sold locally. With a developing passion for perfumes Hazel was convinced her future lay in the toiletries business. After 3 successful years as a toiletries sales representative, Hazel had built up a substantial reputation in the Hotel trade.

Hence H2k was founded in 2000 supplying toiletries and skincare products.

H2k launch 2000
H2k’s first customer was the “Lowry Hotel,” Manchester. It was so successful that within weeks H2k received calls from members of Granada Studios asking where they could purchase H2k products. Hazel quickly realised the potential and launched a concerted sales pitch throughout the U.K.

By this time contracts including Marriott Hotels, Alton Towers, Sir Rocco Forte’s Hotels, Devonshire Arms Hotels (Bolton abbey) had been secured. At this stage the business was growing so fast that H2k moved to larger premises in Haworth.

In her 3rd year of operation, Hazel developed more Hair Products, Body Sprays and Tanning products. She comments “It was imperative at this stage that I had a huge input in the development of all products – even now I am very meticulous about product perfection”.

Inspired by Richard Branson’s autobiography, Hazel decided to attend her first International Hotel exhibition in London. “It was fantastic and great fun! We hired models from one of London’s top model agencies (Samantha Bond)who paraded round the exhibition in H2k Bathrobes” comments Hazel. The publicity gained from this event meant that, within 6 months H2k gained more major contracts such as Park Plaza Hotels, more Marriott Hotels, many Crowne Plaza Hotels & Holiday Inns & The London Business School.

Almost simultaneously, H2k began distributing to resorts in the middle east (Dubai/Oman/Abu Dhabi/Sharjah), and by 2005 had secured business with Radisson SAS, Sheraton Jumeirah Beach, Park Hyatt, Al Bustan Palace, Movenpick to mention but a few.

By May 2006 H2k had grown phenomenally, which prompted a move to the prestigious Harrogate office. The business is now flying and Hazel is really enjoying the fruits of her labour. She says “Don’t get me wrong I am still working very hard and keep a more than close eye on the day to day running of H2k. However, I am now doing what I wanted to do when I started the business i.e. product launches and the promotion of H2k.

At 31 Hazel has weathered many storms both in her personal and business life. H2k was started on a shoe string and now competes with big brands such as Molton Brown.
She expects H2k to be a household name by 2010.
