AirDefense Enterprise 7.2 Introduces Industry-Best Features that Enable Compliance with Regulatory Requirements, Facilitate Real-Time Troubleshooting and Reduce Administration Overhead

Atlanta, GA- February 20, 2007- AirDefense, the innovator and market leader in anywhere, anytime wireless security, today reaffirmed it leadership position in the wireless LAN (WLAN) prevention industry with the launch of AirDefense Enterprise 7.2. AirDefense Enterprise 7.2 is the most comprehensive WLAN protection product suite featuring a robust new reporting engine, a sophisticated wireless troubleshooting module, intelligent event management with new correlation algorithms and new system administration features allowing the effortless protection of hundreds of wireless sites.

“Wireless security is rapidly evolving so the complexity involved in securing a wireless network makes it critical to work with AirDefense’s leading technology,” said Trevor Sears of Discount Tire. “The new features introduced in Enterprise 7.2 make creating custom compliance reports simple in helping us quickly identify the most significant threats to our network.”

The new reporting engine included in Enterprise 7.2 enables network administrators to build their own highly customized reports within minutes. AirDefense already includes built-in reports covering a variety of wireless network activity and fulfilling compliance requirements from auditors. With the new reporting engine, administrators can customize reports to meet the specific requirements of their internal audit groups or requirements from external auditors. One example of such a requirement is monitoring of the Payment Card Industry (PCI) requirements. In addition to running reports in real-time, administrators can schedule detailed reports to run overnight so they are complete and ready for review at the convenience of team members.

The AirDefense LiveRF Module, powered by Motorola technology, provides the industry’s only real-time assessment of wireless network performance. The demand on wireless network performance is constantly increasing as new users connect and new applications such as VoIP and streaming video are required. With LiveRF, administrators can troubleshoot wireless connectivity, throughput, capacity and interference issues from a central console without having to send engineers to remote locations. LiveRF provides a real-time snapshot of wireless coverage as well as performance. This allows administrators to determine the source of performance degradation or analyze how additional applications will affect the wireless network.

“Carilion Health Systems has been using AirDefense Enterprise to solve wireless network problems on a daily basis for over three years,” said Brian Brindle of Carilion Health Systems. “When we originally purchased the system, we knew it would be valuable for security. We had no idea that it would prove so valuable in performance monitoring and troubleshooting.”

For six years since its inception, AirDefense has continued to offer the most comprehensive wireless LAN intrusion detection/prevention solutions in the security industry through their suite of Enterprise products.
Additional Features of Enterprise 7.2
Intelligent Event Management: Given the proliferation of wireless devices and new wireless risks, organizations need to clearly identify high-priority threats for immediate resolution. AirDefense Enterprise 7.2 carries out per-device threat assessment using algorithms that clearly identify the highest threat for a particular location or organization-wide. These changes result in significant reduction in the number of total events that administrators need to manage on a daily basis and retain the unique event details making forensic investigations possible. In addition to the threat assessment changes, detailed event descriptions and a forensic investigation wizard enable new administrators to start benefiting from the system right away.

Set & Forget Configuration: With AirDefense Enterprise 7.2 administrators can relax while the system automatically handles daily configuration tasks. Using sophisticated rules that take into account twelve different categories of wireless activity, AirDefense classifies devices without requiring any user interaction. Automatic classification will most often be used to filter out neighboring wireless devices and to determine when stations are authorized to connect to the network. Enterprise 7.2 also adds support for popular wireless infrastructure systems from Nortel and Enterasys to the existing support for Motorola, Trapeze and Cisco infrastructures.

Newly Designed User Interface: With the average AirDefense Enterprise system seeing tens of thousands of wireless devices, the Enterprise 7.2 release includes a newly designed user interface. The changes make system installation and administration easier than ever. The new System Setup Wizard enables new administrators to have the appliance configured for the most popular options in a matter of minutes. Daily administration is eased by the ability to have multiple, simultaneous forensic investigations, speedier searching through large device trees and faster response times when operating over distant VPN connections. Enterprise 7.2 also includes Web-based reporting which gives any administrator, from any system on the network, immediate access to key data about the wireless network. Finally, new context aware icons were introduced to provide administrators with immediate status recognition concerning any device.

“AirDefense has long been driving new innovations in the wireless security space by building solutions that address customers’ emerging needs,” said Mike Potts, president and CEO of AirDefense. “Our Enterprise 7.2 release adds troubleshooting features that are second-to-none and greatly enhances manageability for our continually expanding customer base. Commercial enterprises like Discount Tire and government agencies such as the Department of Defense and the Department of Transportation work closely with AirDefense because we consistently deliver answers to the most pressing wireless networking issues they face.”
