Expand your horizons this summer with a visit to Christian O’Reilly’s stand no H28 at this year’s most exclusive homes and interiors event, the Telegraph House & Garden Fair.

Bespoke furniture designer-maker Christian O’Reilly will be showcasing his latest designs in furniture and interiors accessories at the renowned fair, which takes place from 27th – 30th June 2007 at Olympia.

Christian’s design ethos is the result of a love of traditional English hardwoods and a belief that good design can resolve any aesthetic and practical issues.

He asks how an item is to be used and how it will work, how strong it needs to be and how its style will fit into its surroundings. Often these factors can pull the design in different directions, and this is where Christian’s work excels as he embraces the notion of compromise.

“Compromise is not negative and does not mean lesser quality” he enthuses. “Compromise is essential to problem solving. Some compromise will detract from the original concept and some will enhance it. It is the ability to find the latter that will make a design succeed or fail”.

The majority of his commissions are made from English hardwoods such as Cherry, Elm or Ripple Ash which he favours in particular for their exquisite textures and colours. A full design service incorporates advice on choosing fabric for upholstered furniture, and recent work has included a dining set using a Liberty print. With chairs, coffee tables, writing boxes and a manuscript cabinet amongst his designs, Christian’s work resonates with iconic style and exceptional craftsmanship, ensuring that every piece is special and guaranteed to stand the test of time.
