As the Home Information Pack (HIP) deadline of June 1st draws ever closer, HouseWeb, the UK’s leading homeowner web site has revealed ever-increasing confusion from homeowners.

The Government has just launched a multi-million pound advertising campaign to make home sellers aware of the new legislation but HouseWeb felt it necessary to launch its own guide due to the mass confusion that HIPs are causing homeowners. In a survey carried out by HouseWeb with people actively looking to sell their home, 72% were still confused about what a HIP was and whether they needed one.

The HouseWeb Guide to HIPs (available free at http://hips.houseweb.com) offers a homeowner-friendly overview of HIPs, helping people to understand in layman’s terms the new legislation which will increase the cost of selling a property by around 10%. The most important advice offered in the guide is how to beat the HIPs deadline and save around £500.

Founder and Managing Director of HouseWeb.com, Mark Desvaux said, “As long as a homeowner has submitted their property details on HouseWeb’s site before June 1st, they will not have to pay for a HIP until December 31st 2007. That gives them an extra seven months to sell their property before having to fork out around £500 for a HIP. HouseWeb offers an advantage over estate agents as the cost of selling a property is the price of the sales package – only £199 including a personalised For Sale Board, instead of the typical £5,500 paid to an agent in fees. Plus, it only takes 15 minutes to put your property on the market using our site.

Based on the huge number of confused homeowners that call us every day, we felt it was necessary to publish a ‘HouseWeb Guide to HIPs’ to help sellers understand how they will be affected. The confusion stems from the ever-changing details of the HIP by the government. We’ve made the HouseWeb guide free to download from our web site and will ensure it is updated on a daily basis if necessary, keeping homeowners completely aware of the latest details which concerns them.”

From the 1st June 2007, HouseWeb will be offering HIPs to homeowners, ensuring they can still sell their property privately whilst complying with current legislation and save an average of £5,500 in estate agent fees.
