Blurb now printing and shipping in the Netherlands to accommodate growing European demand and offer less expensive shipping

June 18th, 2007 London — Blurb, the creative book publishing service, today announced its expansion into the European market. Blurb is expanding its global reach to include printing, binding, and shipping out of a central location in the Netherlands. This regional operation will reduce the cost of shipping and improve delivery time for many international customers who use Blurb to quickly and affordably create, publish, share, and market professional quality books.

In July, Blurb will also introduce several website improvements designed specifically for the European market. Customers will be able to view Blurb books in metric dimensions, and view prices and make purchases in local European currencies.

“Our European customers are making more and more books every month, so we were very motivated to accommodate their growing demand,” said Eileen Gittins, Blurb’s founder and CEO. “We have established local European printing and shipping operations, to demonstrate our commitment to the market and provide more affordable shipping. We plan to continue this process in many more regions to better serve the global Blurb community.”

Blurb is celebrating its European launch by working with Flickr, a leading photo-sharing community owned by Yahoo!, to publish the commemorative 24 Hours of Flickr book. This book illustrates life as it happened around the world in one day via photos taken by Flickr community members. Proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit Ḿedecins Sans Frontières. The book is available for purchase in the Blurb Bookstore at today.

To create and publish a Blurb book, users start by downloading Blurb BookSmart™ software from the Blurb website. Blurb’s BookSmart software is free, runs on a Mac or PC, and offers a wide variety of book layouts created by professional book designers. The software enables anyone to affordably make, share, and market beautiful, bookstore-quality books.
