Friday 29th June 2007……… In a move designed to enhance its position as the first port of call for sports and fitness enthusiasts, leading sports based website has teamed up with two London media and communications companies. The two companies, Global e Networks and Media Run, will be contributing significant investments of both development money and expertise in return for a shareholding in SportsBase. The deal between the three companies will be worth a six-figure sum to SportsBase over the next 2 years.

Under the terms of the deal, SportsBase co-founder Rob Taub will continue in the role of Managing Director while at the same time he will retain the biggest single shareholding in the company. was set up in May 2006 and has grown rapidly to become an essential networking forum for people who play or want to play a sport as well as for sports clubs and venues alike. The website has received over 3 million hits in the last 12 months and features more than 70 sports, around 40,000 sports clubs and venues as well as over 3,000 venues for fitness activities.

Starting as an online directory of sports, clubs and sporting venues, SportsBase rapidly added a feature called SportsMate which enables participants in any sport or fitness activity to find a playing partner or team member anywhere in the UK.

SportsMate provides the user with a free profile to outline what sport they play, how often they play and at what level. They can also specify the club or venue where they play. Users can let friends and other users know of their plans and preferences via an individual blog. As on other networking sites, friends are able to leave messages for one another and discuss anything that comes to mind.

Later this month a new feature, SportsImpact, will be launched directly to clubs and teams at the grass roots level and to individuals. SportsImpact will be a revolutionary service that will enable participating sports clubs, for a small monthly fee, to offer their members free calls, Instant Messaging and texts, making it easy for those members to arrange games, fixtures or matches. A percentage of the revenue generated from SportsImpact will go back to the individual clubs to help develop and find the sports stars of the future.

Global e Networks is a specialist in internet and media telecommunications. The company has invested significantly in cutting edge technology from China which it is now bringing to the forefront of communications in Europe. SportsBase will benefit considerably from this technology.

Media Run is a global online advertising company whose major role will be to market and align SportsBase with the right brands as well as increase revenue through sponsorship and display advertising. Media Run was formed in 2004 to provide online solutions for both the advertiser and the publisher covering all aspects of digital marketing.

According to Managing Director of SportsBase, Rob Taub, the partnership is coming at an ideal time. “I am delighted that the partnership with Global e Networks and Media Run will be bringing both cash investment and expertise,” he says. “This will help SportsBase to get to the next stage of its development more quickly so that we can offer anybody interested in sports participation, at whatever level, a service that will help bring them more into the sporting community. And with new partners in place we aim to keep at the forefront of sport and sports participation with several new developments over the coming 12 months. It’s an exciting time.”
