Gradwell has loaned its servers and systems free of charge – and has provided low-cost VoIP - for 40,000 users arriving in the UK from every corner of the world to attend the Scouts Association centenary celebrations.
With more than 40,000 scouts arriving during the first week of August to attend the Association’s celebrations in Hylands Park (Chelmsford, Essex) 21st century telecoms in the shape of an international Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system has been made available by Bath-based entrepreneur - and MD of Gradwell dot com - Peter Gradwell.
A range of phones has been sold to the Association at-cost. Mark-up on the costs of calls – which can be made internationally – has been reduced by Gradwell from the industry standard 40% to 10%.
“In all, there are 40,000 phone cards operational in 5 languages available to scouts for use on 250 handsets on the Jamboree site,” said Peter Gradwell.
With Prince William and the Duke of Kent attending some of the celebration’s activities at the end of July, numbers of attendees from 180 nations could finally exceed 40,000 during the coming week.
“We are aware of the pressing need for a low-cost but sophisticated, reliable telecoms service to made available during the centenary Jamboree, and are delighted to provide the means for VoIP calls – which are calls using the internet – on terms that reflect our support for the scout movement as a whole.”
“The Association is to be warmly congratulated on its 100 years, on its success in providing such a memorable and enjoyable series of events, and on its excellent day-to-day work,” he added.
“Its desire and motivation to spread peace and understanding throughout the world is a wonderful and worthwhile mission.”
