Equiinet’s stand E85 at BETT 2008 Education show (Olympia 9th-12th Jan) reinforces the company’s continuing commitment to eLearning and eSafety, with significant new product introductions as well as notable enhancements to its well-established products.
In the eLearning arena, Equiinet has chosen the show to announce its collaboration with authorised Moodle Partner, Synergy Learning. Moodle founder, Martin Dougiamas says he “looks forward to seeing the Synergy-Equiinet partnership flourish” and that he feels it will “be of great appeal to those that don’t want to opt for the DIY approach”.
The solution, MoodlePilot, is a focused learning platform for course management and distribution based on Equiinet’s well-proven CachePilot, with tailored support services from Synergy Learning. Both content distribution and course management elements are included in the turnkey hardware and software solution, enabling a comprehensive array of learning materials to be shared easily and securely in a structured way.
“We see MoodlePilot as being complementary to existing central site VLEs – not a replacement.” says Keith Baker, Equiinet’s Managing Director. “Being sited locally and offering a differing set of features and materials in-school, MoodlePilot offers distinct additional benefits.”
Regarding CachePilot, which is currently installed in over 12,000 schools, the latest iteration, CachePilot Plus, shows that the product has kept pace both in terms of numbers of PCs in deployment and in the sophistication of media-rich resources being used. Offering increased security and performance, CachePilot Plus can store more than 50 eLearning titles simultaneously.
In eSafety, Equiinet is announcing it is in the final stages of development of a wide-ranging one-stop solution for schools that will combat traditional threats by filtering out viruses, block hackers and stop the viewing of inappropriate websites; ranging to alerting on more recent issues such as cyber-bullying, grooming, online gambling or the use of unmoderated chat rooms or blogs. The combination of eSafetyPilot, sited at individual schools, together with equipment and tools at Local Authorities, Learning Grids, or suitably approved agencies - enables all network content to be captured, replayed and analysed, giving a total picture of in-school network communications. Any activities that violate ‘Acceptable Use Policies’ can be automatically highlighted and acted on appropriately.
The latest versions of Equiinet’s other eSafety product – SecurePilot, a secure network gateway and firewall designed specifically for schools which addresses traditional threats like hackers, viruses, intrusion detection and prevention, and internal and external attacks – and BackupPilot, launched at last year’s BETT show and now in operation in many schools throughout the country, is an easy to install device that ensures all school data is backed up without any need for human intervention – will also be on show.
Equiinet was founded in 1998 and led the way in the manufacture and supply of extremely secure server appliances, giving organisations of all shapes and sizes the peace of mind to make full use of the internet. Using the company’s ability to deliver cost-effective, integrated solutions Equiinet has developed a range of products for the education sector with twin themes of the effective distribution and use of eLearning materials – complemented by eSafety, of both pupils and school network infrastructures.
