Corporate event venue 24:london has announced the 2008 upgrade of its interactive film projection technology. The computer-controlled system instantly transforms the interior walls of the UK digital launch venue to create a themed virtual location – such as a catwalk show, a desert or a giant aquarium. It is the setting for key partner launches events and promotions for major brands in the film, music, telecoms and fashion sectors, according to 24:london.

Located near the junction of Oxford Street and Regent Street, 24:london has a capacity for 400 people, or 200 seated, comprised of five large booths, a bar and dance/ reception space. Floor to ceiling screens, located behind the seating area in each booth, display film projected from a central laptop or hard drive, as either multiple screens or a single extended screen across the length of the interior walls.

The virtual technology enables corporate users to generate instantly a theme for any occasion without the need to recreate the space with extensive interior design and alterations. Also, web sites and recorded footage of new service offerings can be presented, with ease of viewing by all guests throughout the venue.

The interactive technology is the only installation of its kind in London. The iSurface system incorporated in the wall projections interacts with visitors - for example, when images of fish swimming are projected around the walls of 24:london and a visitor reaches out to touch them, the fish will swim away.

To create this interactivity, customized firewire tracking cameras with specialised motherboards and 3,000-lumen projectors are hidden behind specially treated safety glass to allow the optimal amount of light to travel through and give a clear image, with management software to control the content. Cameras and projection equipment are cooled with a heat extraction module using aluminium coating and a fan system to suck out hot air.
