Nuffield Hospital Group improves Governance and Risk Management using DATIX software and experiences a 100% increase in reporting of incidents

DATIX chosen after competitive evaluation and pilot for market-leading capabilities and ability to tailor specifically for use across the Nuffield Group

DATIX Ltd has announced that the Nuffield Hospital Group has chosen and implemented its DATIX software following a competitive evaluation of six suppliers.

The aim of the procurement was to support group governance and risk management processes and DATIX was chosen because the evaluation and pilot demonstrated best-in-class performance and the ability to meet diverse reporting and integration requirements across the Nuffield Group. The Group includes over 31 hospitals, plus mobile diagnostics units, health and fitness (having just acquired Cannons Health & Fitness) and stand-alone decontamination centres.

To improve reporting across the whole Group, Nuffield opted for a solution comprising a number of DATIX modules, including Incident Reporting, Risk Register, Complaints Handling and Safety Alerts.

Su Barnett, General Manager Group Governance for Nuffield Hospital Group, said: “We needed to enhance our group governance and risk management processes, including reporting. The old stand-alone databases were not fulfilling our group-wide needs, and retrieving any information for continuous improvement was very time consuming and costly.”

“Today, with DATIX, we have a modern, responsive patient safety and risk management system that is integrated throughout the entire Group. It has fundamentally changed the way we work and brought about across-the-board improvements in efficiency and standards.”

“The implementation of the project was handled quickly and efficiently. Following evaluation in March 2007, Nuffield piloted the software in two hospitals during the summer and fully rolled it out in October. Important to Nuffield was that DATIX worked with them to customise the software for the specific requirements of the Group. Equally important was that the modified solution would still be fully supported. Steve Penny the Nuffield IT Project Manager worked with Alan Birch the Training Manager at DATIX to ensure everything ran smoothly. ”

“DATIX fulfilled our expectations both as a company and a solution,” said Barnett. “Not only did the company display a flexible approach to putting the solution in place, but it worked very closely with us throughout implementation, the training of our staff and the provision of consultancy to help us put our own in-house helpdesk in place. The service provided has been excellent.”

One of the main changes seen by the Nuffield Group is a 100% increase in reporting due to the ease of use and accessibility of DATIX. There is also greater management visibility of reports and the ability to analyse trends and learn lessons from incidents and complaints. “It means we can make necessary improvements to reduce risks and improve patient safety,” added Barnett. “Importantly, it saves staff time that can then be spent with patients and colleagues. The feedback in this respect, particularly from our matrons, has been overwhelming.”

DATIX has more than 400 customers which include over 75 per cent of the UK’s National Health Service, major healthcare organisations in Canada and some of the world's leading private healthcare providers. DATIX is provided as a standard package with extensive customisation features that make it flexible enough to meet the requirements of healthcare around the world.

Daniel Hazan, General Manager of DATIX, said: “It was important for us to demonstrate to Nuffield that we could provide a leading solution to the Group that would meet its requirements exactly. We are delighted to welcome such a prestigious name within the independent healthcare sector to our growing list of customers.”
