NU-LOK AND BECO PARTNER TO BRING COMPLETE SOLAR PV SOLUTION TO THE MASS MARKET Friday 28 March 2008 PDF Print 28 March 2008, Wellingborough, UK: Nu-lok Roofing Systems - the award-winning, global roofing company – and its sustainable energy division Green Frog Solar, today announced a new partnership with Beco Solar - a company specialising in on and off grid solar energy systems - to deliver a total solar PV (photovoltaic) solution at a price that is finally affordable to UK home owners; critical in this era of escalating fuel prices. With prices starting from around £5,000, Nu-lok and Beco are providing the most cost-effective, in-line solar roofing solution available on the market today. This lower investment level will ensure a shorter payback time Nu-lok and Beco’s solution enables clients of both housing and non housing projects to benefit from the government’s Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP) grant schemes. Phase 1 of this programme, which is managed by the Energy Saving Trust, provides grants for the installation of microgeneration technologies in a range of buildings including households, community organisations, public, private and the non-profit sectors. Householders can apply for grants of up to £2,500 per property towards the cost of installing an approved product by a certified installer. It is expected that a more favourable grant system for householders will be introduced in April. Phase 2 of the LCBP programme incorporates a grant for the installation of microgeneration technologies to public sector buildings (including schools, hospitals, housing associations and local authorities) and charitable bodies. These grants are substantial and can offset the cost of installation by up to 50%. Beco will assist Nu-lok’s clients in finding a suitable option, which will maximise the funding available to them. Nigel Brunton-Reed, Managing Director of Beco Solar, said: “We have been around for 10 years and Nu-lok’s solution is one we’ve been looking for, for a long time. The company caught our attention due to its complete integration of solar PV into a pitched roof system, making it ideal for slate roofs. These are exciting times for solar energy developments and we are thrilled to be working with Nu-lok and Green Frog.” Wayne Mills, Joint MD of Nu-lok and Green Frog Solar, said: “I am delighted to announce this new partnership with Beco, which is the last part of the jigsaw in terms of providing a complete, end-to-end solar roofing solution for both housing and non housing projects alike. By working with Beco’s certified electrical installers, we are also providing a new and exciting market opportunity for roofing contractors who are currently missing out on solar installations.” This new partnership ensures that once Nu-lok’s roof slates and solar panels have been fitted by an approved roofing contractor, a Beco certified electrical installer will complete the installation by connecting the roofing system to an appropriate electrical system within the property. Such a system incorporates inverters, isolators and cabling, together with a PV check meter, an export meter and an optional PV monitor. Three key solar PV facts: • A kWp* of PV will generate around 800kWh of electricity per year (based on Energy Saving Trust figures). • A kWp* of PV equates to 8.64m² and will save around 568kg of carbon per year. (based on Energy Saving Trust figures) • A typical new energy efficient house with 3kWp* of PV will generate the same amount of electricity as it uses and save over 1.7 tons of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere. *PV systems are typically rated in kWp - kilowatt (peak) – the combined installed capacity of all the PV modules installed. - ends - About Beco Solar Beco has specialised in the design, supply and installation of Photovoltaic (PV) systems since 1979, initially generating electricity for off-grid installations such as marine buoys and lighthouses but increasingly for buildings off all types. Having installed systems nationwide on buildings ranging from houses to schools, churches to leisure centres, beach huts to barns, Beco has the experience to see projects through from concept to completion. Beco provides technical expertise and the highest level of support in both PV and Wind Generation – the two most effective technologies for reducing CO2 emissions from buildings. PV systems generate clean electricity silently with no moving parts, virtually no maintenance, and continue to operate efficiently for well over 25 years. Beco’s Wind Division, Cholwell Energy, has been installing wind turbines across the South of England since 1999.
