AMSTERDAM - 3rd April , 2008 - Interxion, Europe’s leading provider of network-neutral data centre services, today announced that the company has become a Contributor Member of The Green Grid, a global nonprofit consortium of companies dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centres and business computing ecosystems. Alongside other members such as Microsoft, IBM, and Cisco, Interxion will use its membership to pursue a strategy of maximizing energy-efficient design and processes in data centres.

“We feel that it is our responsibility, on behalf of our customers and the industry as whole, to take a proactive role in defining and delivering better standards in energy-efficiency,” said Dick Theunissen, Interxion’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Interxion is now in its fifth generation of data centre design, and each generation improves efficiency through energy-conscious design and the application of new technologies. As a Contributor Member of The Green Grid, we will be uniquely placed to support the organisation’s efforts in Europe, where we intend to share the knowledge and expertise we have gained building over 42,000 m² of raised floor with The Green Grid, its membership, and our customers.”

“Interxion’s experience in building and managing 22 data centres across Europe will be invaluable,” said Winston Bumpus, a director of The Green Grid. “They have pioneered a number of leaner more energy-efficient processes in their build-out programme. Also, as data centre services Contributor Members, Interxion can provide valuable insights into end-user habits and concerns. We look forward to their active input in defining specifications, test suites and design guidelines.”

The Green Grid seeks to provide industry-wide recommendations on best practices, metrics and technologies that will improve overall data center and business computing energy efficiencies. By joining The Green Grid, Interxion is helping to determine and develop energy efficiency standards for developers and end users of data center facilities and technology.
