CHANGEBASE AOK LAUNCHES AUTOMATED QA TOOL FOR PACKAGING PROJECTS - Reduces QA and FIX time to less than a minute and Delivers 100% Consistency Wednesday 16 April 2008 PDF Print ChangeBASE AOK has introduced an innovative, automated tool to ensure quality standards for application packaging projects - at a fraction of the time and cost of traditional and manual methods. This adds to its application compatibility testing toolkit range of products. AOK QA-IT provides a pack of plugins with the most common QA checks used in organisations with customisable functionality, which include AOK’s unique automated REPORT and FIX functionality. ChangeBase Plugins are discrete collections of rules, business logic and descriptive commentary which are deployed as single, compressed and encrypted CBP files. These files contain everything required to run a particular report and if available will also contain the relevant fix for use within the AOK tool-set. “Most packaging projects, at least those within large organisations, will be subject to a set of best practices or standards. These will be based on the organisation and those laid down by the manufacturer – in the case of Microsoft Installer (MSI) the best practices as laid down in the platform SDK for example.” Said John Tate, CEO, ChangeBASE. “This process is important, yet prone to human error and can be costly. Worst case scenario can mean failed SLAs and financial penalties for third party service providers.” Traditionally, packagers or QA staff would check manually thousands of registry settings or component GUIDs looking for non-conformant entries. These would be manually amended by updating tables in the MSI database. These failed SLAs and the round-tripping are an expensive overhead to an already expensive process which will often take a minimum of ½ a day and often be as high as 2 days or more in complex environments. “AOK QA-IT reduces the time taken for each check, fixes where appropriate, and all in less than one minute, this is regardless of the application, be it simple, medium or high complexity,” Tate continues. “Most importantly, because the checks and fixes are codified, SLA failures and round tripping are eliminated.” There are a number of standard plugins that come as part of the AOK QA-IT pack. These are all based on Microsoft Installer best practices and are the ones most likely to increase the technical hygiene of the clients MSI estate and all include AOK’s unique automated report and fix functionality. The AOK Quality Assurance Plugin ensures that each application package analysed has a unique identifier for every component included in the application package. For more complex/company specific checks ChangeBASE has developed a Plug-In generator that can be used to create further checks. Standard plugins include: • One File Per Component • Component KeyPath Analysis • Installation of Components to the System Directory • Empty Components Analysis • Shared DLL Registry Count Analysis • Custom Action Sequencing Analysis • Darwin Descriptor Analysis • Registry Stamp Analysis • Customer Property Analysis • Empty Directory Table Analysis • Nested MSI Installation Scan • Duplicate File Check The product is available immediately and costs from £40 application.
