April 16, 2008 - Gomez, Inc., a leading provider of web experience management solutions, today announced that Boylesports.com, Ireland’s fastest growing independent bookmaker, has improved its website performance by an average of 9.9 seconds, using data collected by the Gomez® ExperienceFirst(TM) platform.
The performance of a website (how fast it is, how reliable and accessible it is) is key to maintaining brand identity and reputation. If a customer has a bad experience online, they will not only move to a competitor’s site, but also abandon that brand in the offline world. This ultimately results in a huge cascade effect of customer and sales loss.
Vigne Kozacek, IT Director at Boylesports.com said; “I saw the Gomez betting benchmark (which compares the largest online players in the betting world) in a top tier publication and was shocked to see that we weren’t in it. I then contacted Gomez to ask why this was, and found out that they had been tracking our website, but it was performing too badly to enter the top ten list. The time it took for our website to load was unacceptable as far as offering our customers the best service possible, and the percentage of time it successfully loaded – or the availability – was below the benchmark average. Obviously, this wasn’t good enough, so we set up a trial to monitor a variety of our games."
For a company that saw its turnover reach €629.3 million in 2007, a slow load time was simply not acceptable, as its customers rely on being able to quickly and efficiently place, manage and track bets online.
After completing a successful pilot in March of 2007, and the implementation of a load balancer internally, Boylesports began to use Gomez’s Active Network XF(TM) website monitoring solution to better understand how the customer experience offered by their websites was influenced by website performance. By using Gomez data, the company was able to indentify the specific problems that required correction, and improved its response time and availability enough within just one month to take 9th place on the betting benchmark.
David Flower, VP EMEA for Gomez, added; “This month, we are celebrating our partnership with Boylesports reaching the one year milestone. As one of the leading players in the Betting world, and early adopters in taking a proactive attitude to improving customer experience, we look forward to helping them to provide greater value to consumers through the web channel.”
Boylesports now completes 100,000 measures a month across its Casino, Poker and Lottery games, loading one randomised page per minute, placing a ‘synthetic’ bid once an hour, and providing a test view of the horse racing facility.
Daniel O’Mahony, Chief Executive of Boylesports said, “The initial adoption of Gomez software by Boylesports fell in line with our core ideal of constantly assessing and improving the service we provide for our customers. Boylesports is an industry leader in terms of client service and with the increasing volume of business transacted online it was important for us to provide a website that catered to the growing needs of our customers. Working closely with Gomez we have been able to significantly improve our online offering and transfer value and improved service to the customer.”
“I have the Gomez dashboard open on my PC constantly, it’s now embedded into my log-in page, so I receive live updates and can review the past couple of day’s tests for a broader view of the website’s performance. I also receive reports via email throughout the day, which the rest of the IT team uses for troubleshooting, as well as graph reports on the hour which we can react to very quickly,” continued Vigne Kozacek.
Looking forward, Boylesports is planning to develop its website monitoring with Gomez, which will include using Gomez’s Actual Experience XF(TM) the company’s tag based solution which measures users’ actual performance from their browser. This will provide an in-depth ‘real user’ analysis, which can be merged with Google Analytics data.
